FMVA certification cost at a glance
Self-Study: $347.90 a year ($497 list, 30% off on 17 October 2026)
Full-Immersion: $592.90 a year ($847 list, 30% off)
Students: 50% off with a university email: $248.50 or $423.50 a year
India: an FMVA-only plan at ₹12,000 a year (billed as $125)
Exam fee: none; the final exam and certificate are included
Billing: annual only, auto-renews, no refund for the current term
Bottom line: for most buyers the real cost of the FMVA is one year of Self-Study, $347.90, provided you finish the 100 to 120 hours inside that year.

The FMVA costs $347.90 a year on CFI’s Self-Study plan or $592.90 a year on Full-Immersion, the prices CFI showed on 17 October 2026 after a 30% discount from $497 and $847. You cannot buy the FMVA on its own: it comes inside a CFI membership, along with six other certifications.
This page is about the money: what each plan costs, what students and learners in India pay, what the renewal means for your total bill, what CFI will and will not refund, and every legitimate way to pay less. If you want to know whether the program itself is good, read our FMVA review by a graduate, which covers the course and exam from the inside.

CFI sells memberships, not individual certifications. Its pricing FAQ says so directly: you cannot purchase a single certification program, because every program is included with an all-access membership. So the FMVA price is the membership price. Here is what CFI listed on 17 October 2026:
| Plan | List price | Price on 17 Oct 2026 | Who it is for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Self-Study | $497 a year | $347.90 a year (30% off) | Most learners: every course, all 7 certification exams |
| Full-Immersion | $847 a year | $592.90 a year (30% off) | Learners who want expert answers, model feedback and an AI tutor |
| Student Self-Study | $497 a year | $248.50 a year (50% off) | Current students with a university email |
| Student Full-Immersion | $847 a year | $423.50 a year (50% off) | Students who want the extras |
| India: FMVA only | n/a | ₹12,000 a year (billed as $125) | Learners in India who only want the FMVA |
| Team Basic / Premium | n/a | $399 / $497 per learner a year | Employers buying two or more seats |
Three points explain most of the confusion online. First, the FMVA final exam has no separate fee; CFI’s help center says no additional fees are required to earn the certification once you are enrolled, and its team plans list “all final certification exam fees included.” Second, the $347.90 figure is the discounted price, not a separate cheaper tier: the plan’s list price is $497. Third, prices are charged in US dollars, and your bank converts them, which is why people in the UK, Nigeria, South Africa or Egypt see different local totals for the same plan.

Both plans include the same courses and the same certificate. The difference is support. This is the feature list from CFI’s pricing page on 17 October 2026:
| Feature | Self-Study ($347.90) | Full-Immersion ($592.90) |
|---|---|---|
| 250+ on-demand courses | Yes | Yes |
| 7 certification exams (FMVA, FPAP, CMSA, CBCA, BIDA, FPWMP, FTIP) | Yes | Yes |
| 15 specialization programs | Yes | Yes |
| Verifiable CPE/CPD credits | 575+ (pricing page); the FMVA page says 550+ | Same |
| Blockchain-verified certificates | Yes | Yes |
| AI Tutor inside every course | No | Yes |
| Ask an Expert: 5 finance questions a week | No | Yes |
| Personalized review of your course models | No | Yes |
| Premium job-ready templates and guides | No | Yes |
| Partner discounts (PitchBook, FinChat, Koyfin, IBISWorld) | No | $300+ in discounts |
Full-Immersion costs $245 more a year. It earns that back only if you will use the expert questions and the model reviews, for example because you are preparing for technical interviews and want someone to check your three-statement model. If you are disciplined and do not need feedback, Self-Study gets you the same exam and the same certificate.

FMVA Cost by Country: India, Students and Regional Pricing
FMVA cost in India (INR)
CFI runs a separate India site with its own prices. On 17 October 2026 it showed a special FMVA-only plan at ₹12,000 a year, billed as $125 USD. That plan includes the FMVA courses and the FMVA exam, not the full library, so it does not include the other six certifications. The same page showed the full Self-Study plan at $323.05 a year (35% off $497) and Full-Immersion at $465.85 (45% off $847).
If you only want the FMVA and you live in India, the ₹12,000 plan is the cheapest legitimate route we found. If you think you will add a second certification such as the FPAP or BIDA, the full Self-Study plan is better value. Learners on Reddit’s r/cfaindia have confirmed the split: the ₹12,000 offer covers the FMVA only, while the roughly $400 global plan covers everything. CFI says learners outside its regional sites should buy through the main global site.
Student pricing
CFI’s student page offers 50% off either plan when you sign up with a university-affiliated email address: $248.50 a year for Self-Study and $423.50 for Full-Immersion. The discount renews at 50% until you cancel, so a student who finishes the FMVA in year one and keeps the membership for the CFA prep or a second certification keeps the rate. Our CFI student discount guide covers what to do if your university email does not verify.
UK, Nigeria, South Africa and other countries
Outside India we did not find a regional price list, so the US-dollar plans apply: $347.90 or $592.90 a year at the current discount. CFI accepts Visa, Mastercard and American Express and charges in USD. Your card issuer converts the amount and may add a foreign-transaction fee of its own, so check that before you pay if you live outside the US.
Your Total Cost: Renewals and the Second Year
The sticker price only tells you the cost of one year. What you actually pay depends on how long you take. CFI estimates the FMVA at 100 to 120 hours, and its pricing FAQ says most learners finish a certification in three to six months at 8 to 10 hours a week. Memberships are billed annually, there is no monthly option, and plans auto-renew unless you turn renewal off in your account settings.
| Your pace | Rough finish (110 hours) | Self-Study total | Full-Immersion total |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15+ hours a week | About 7 weeks | $347.90 | $592.90 |
| 8 to 10 hours a week | 3 to 3.5 months | $347.90 | $592.90 |
| 5 hours a week | About 5 months | $347.90 | $592.90 |
| Stop and start, finish in month 14 | Over a year | $695.80 if renewed at the same rate | $1,185.80 if renewed at the same rate |
The last row is where people overspend. A year paid for and abandoned in month three still costs the full year, and the renewal charges again automatically. Two habits keep the FMVA at one year’s price: book study time before you pay, and turn off auto-renew on day one if you are not sure you will want a second year. The certificate itself does not need a membership to stay valid; CFI says it is valid for life with no renewal or maintenance fee.
Hidden and Extra Costs to Plan For
- Retakes need an active membership. If you fail the final exam you wait 30 days, and CFI’s exam guide says you need an active subscription to retake. If your year runs out before you pass, the retake effectively costs another year.
- Excel. CFI requires Excel 2016 or newer. Most learners already have it through work or school; if you do not, budget for a Microsoft 365 subscription.
- A printed certificate. Current plans list a blockchain-verified digital certificate. Printed certificates were a Full-Immersion extra in earlier years and are no longer on the plan cards.
- Currency conversion. Charges are in USD; your bank sets the rate and any foreign-transaction fee.
- Your time. 100 to 120 hours is the largest cost for most people. At the job you are training for, that is worth more than the membership.
Refunds, Cancellation and Auto-Renewal
Read this part before you pay, because it is where the FMVA can cost more than you expect. CFI’s Terms of Service, last updated 25 August 2026, say:
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each term unless you cancel before the renewal date.
- You can cancel at any time, but the cancellation takes effect at the end of the current term. You keep access until then, and you get no refund or credit for the rest of that term.
- Pre-paid fees are not refundable except where the terms, CFI’s refund policy or the law require it. EU and UK residents request immediate access when they buy, which can limit the statutory right to withdraw.
- If CFI does refund a subscription, it may revoke any certificate earned during it.
The practical rule: assume the year is non-refundable and test CFI before you buy. A free CFI account gives you introductory videos from almost every course plus the full Careers in Finance course, which is enough to judge the teaching style.
How to Save Money on the FMVA
1. Use the public 30% discount (no code needed)
CFI’s discounts page says the 30% price applies with “no coupon code needed.” On 17 October 2026 the pricing page showed the same $347.90 and $592.90 with or without a code. Our CFI links also carry code AFF30, which CFI honors at checkout, so if the public badge drops back to a smaller discount the link still gets you 30% off. You do not need to hunt for coupon sites; none of the codes we tested beat the public price.
2. Students: take the 50% plan
If you are enrolled at a university, the student plan halves either price and keeps the rate on renewal. At $248.50 it is the cheapest full-library route.
3. Apply for a CFI scholarship
CFI’s scholarship program awards 50 applicants worldwide twice a year with a free one-year Self-Study subscription. Winners are announced in the third week of January and July, and anyone who has ever held a paid CFI subscription is not eligible, so apply before you buy, not after. The older “bursary of up to $500” you may see quoted on other sites describes a previous financial-aid program; CFI’s current page offers the free subscription instead.
4. Ask your employer
CFI’s team plans start at $399 a learner a year for Basic and $497 for Premium, with a minimum of two learners. Premium is the team plan that CFI describes as including the professional certifications. Many finance teams have a learning budget, and a request is more likely to succeed if you name the FMVA and the skills you will bring back.
5. Wait for a seasonal sale, if the timing works
CFI has run its largest discounts around Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Our CFI Black Friday guide tracks the current offer. With 30% already public, waiting a month only makes sense if you were not going to start before then anyway.
6. Finish inside one term
The cheapest FMVA is the one you complete before the renewal date. That is worth more than any coupon.
What the Price Buys: The FMVA Program in Numbers
For $347.90 you get the full FMVA program as CFI listed it on 17 October 2026:
| Item | FMVA (CFI program page, 17 Oct 2026) |
|---|---|
| Courses | 45 in total, 18 required |
| Required courses | 15 core courses plus at least 3 of 12 electives |
| Prep courses | 9 optional courses in Excel, accounting and corporate finance |
| Study time | 100 to 120 hours (CFI estimate) |
| Course assessments | 80% to pass each one, unlimited attempts |
| Final exam | 50 multiple-choice questions incl. Excel case studies, 3 hours, 70% to pass, online, no scheduling |
| Retakes | 30-day wait; active subscription required |
| Certificate | Blockchain-verified digital certificate, valid for life |
| CFI rating | 4.9 from 36,924 ratings on the program page |
One discrepancy is worth knowing. CFI’s help center article on the FMVA, last updated 5 February 2026, still describes 14 core courses and three electives chosen from 27. The live program page lists 15 core courses and a minimum of 3 electives out of 12. We use the program page because it is the newer source, but expect the list to keep moving. Our graduate review lists every core course with its hours.
CFI’s exam guide does not say the FMVA final is proctored. Its Terms of Service do let CFI designate any assessment as a proctored examination, which can involve identity verification, remote proctoring software, a webcam and a microphone, so read the exam instructions before you start.
Is the FMVA Worth the Money?
On price alone, the FMVA is one of the cheapest structured credentials in finance: a year of Self-Study costs less than a single CFA exam registration, and it includes six other certifications. Whether that money is well spent depends on what you need from it. Recruiters and hiring managers on Reddit are consistent: the skills help in technical interviews and on the job, the badge on its own rarely opens doors, and its value is highest in the first two years of a finance career. For US FP&A roles, commenters on r/FPandA said the qualifications that move a resume are still the CPA, MBA and CFA.
So pay for the FMVA if you will build models with what it teaches. Do not pay for it to collect letters after your name. Joseph Ugwu, who earned the FMVA in 2021, answers the “is it worth it” question in full in our FMVA review, including how it helped his promotion and where it fell short.
FMVA Cost vs Alternatives
The FMVA is usually compared with three kinds of program: the CFA charter, investment banking modeling courses, and cheap single courses. Here is what each costs:
| Program | Cost | Format | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| CFI FMVA | $347.90 a year (Self-Study, 30% off) | Self-paced, online final exam | FP&A, corporate finance, analyst roles |
| CFA charter | $3,520 to $4,570 in exam fees for all three levels, plus prep | Three proctored exams, about 300 hours each | Asset management, equity research |
| Wall Street Prep Premium Package | $499 one-time | Self-paced, about 46 hours of video | Investment banking desk prep |
| Breaking Into Wall Street | $497 a year (Platinum) or $497 once (Premium bundle) | Self-paced, case studies | IB and PE recruiting |
| Single Udemy modeling course | Often under $20 on sale | Self-paced, certificate of completion | One skill, no credential |
Sources: CFI’s pricing page (17 October 2026); CFA fees and pass rates as verified at CFA Institute for our CFI vs CFA comparison; Wall Street Prep and BIWS prices as checked for our best financial modeling courses ranking and CFI vs BIWS comparison in October 2026.
The comparison that matters most is the one-time vs annual model. Wall Street Prep and the BIWS Premium bundle are paid once and kept, while CFI charges every year you stay. If you will finish fast and then stop, the FMVA is the cheapest; if you want lifetime access to the material, a one-time package can cost less over several years. Who Should Pay for Full-Immersion?
| Choose Self-Study if you… | Choose Full-Immersion if you… |
|---|---|
| can study alone and check your own models against CFI’s solutions | want an expert to review your models before interviews |
| mainly want the FMVA certificate and course library | will ask finance questions each week and use the AI tutor |
| are on a budget or a student | will use the PitchBook, FinChat or Koyfin discounts |
| plan to finish in under six months | are preparing for a role change and want structured feedback |
If you are unsure, start with Self-Study. You can move up a plan later; you cannot get money back for extras you did not use.

FMVA Cost FAQs
How much does the FMVA certification cost?
The FMVA comes with a CFI membership: Self-Study is $497 a year and Full-Immersion $847 a year at list price. On 17 October 2026 CFI showed both at 30% off, $347.90 and $592.90. There is no separate exam fee.
Can I buy the FMVA on its own?
Not on CFI’s global site. Every certification is included in an all-access membership. In India, CFI offers an FMVA-only plan at 12,000 rupees a year (billed as $125 USD), which covers the FMVA but not the other certifications.
How much is the FMVA in India?
On CFI’s India site on 17 October 2026: an FMVA-only plan at 12,000 rupees a year (billed as $125), the full Self-Study plan at $323.05 a year and Full-Immersion at $465.85.
Is there a CFI student discount for the FMVA?
Yes. Students who sign up with a university email get 50% off: $248.50 a year for Self-Study or $423.50 for Full-Immersion. The rate renews at 50% until you cancel.
Do I need a discount code for the FMVA?
No. CFI’s discounts page says the 30% price needs no coupon code. Our CFI links also apply code AFF30, which keeps the price at 30% off if CFI’s public discount changes.
Is the FMVA exam fee included?
Yes. The final exam and the digital certificate are included in the membership. If you fail, you wait 30 days to retake, and you need an active membership to do so.
Does CFI offer monthly billing?
No. CFI bills memberships annually and does not offer a monthly option. Plans auto-renew each year unless you turn renewal off in your account settings.
Can I get a refund on the FMVA?
Plan on no. CFI’s Terms of Service (updated 25 August 2026) say cancellation takes effect at the end of your paid term with no refund for that term, and pre-paid fees are not refundable except where its terms, refund policy or law require. A refunded subscription can lose its certificates.
Is the FMVA free?
No. A free CFI account gives you introductory videos from most courses and the full Careers in Finance course, but the FMVA courses, exam and certificate need a paid membership. CFI’s scholarship program gives 50 people a free year of Self-Study twice a year.
Does the FMVA have renewal or maintenance fees?
No. CFI says the certification is valid for life with no renewal or maintenance fee. Access to courses and updates ends when your membership lapses.
Is the FMVA final exam proctored?
CFI’s FMVA exam guide does not mention proctoring: it is an online exam with no scheduling. CFI’s Terms of Service, updated 25 August 2026, let it designate any assessment as a proctored exam, which can involve identity verification, remote proctoring software and a webcam and microphone, so read the exam instructions before you start.
Is Full-Immersion worth the extra $245?
Only if you will use the expert questions, AI tutor and model reviews, typically when preparing for interviews. Both plans include the same courses, exam and certificate.
