QUICK VERDICT
Bottom line: CFI gives verified students 50% off both annual plans: Self-Study for $248.50 a year (list $497) and Full-Immersion for $423.50 (list $847). Nothing is stripped out; you get all seven certifications, and the rate renews at 50% off until you cancel. It is the deepest standard discount CFI offers, well ahead of the 30% our AFF30 code gives everyone else. Sign up through CFI’s student pricing page with a university email, or send CFI proof of enrolment if your university does not issue one.
The Corporate Finance Institute sells one product, an annual all-access membership, at two tiers, and its student discount is a flat 50% off either tier. That matters because CFI’s certifications (the FMVA above all) are the ones finance recruiters recognise from a student CV, and at $248.50 a year the membership costs less than a single university textbook bundle. This page covers exactly what you pay, how CFI verifies you, what is included, and what to do if you do not have a university email address.

Prices read on CFI’s student pricing page on 11 September 2026. Both are annual plans and both renew at the student rate until cancelled.
| Plan | Regular price | Student price (50% off) | What the tier adds |
|---|---|---|---|
| Self-Study | $497/year | $248.50/year | Every certification, specialization and course; templates and case studies; self-paced |
| Full-Immersion | $847/year | $423.50/year | Everything in Self-Study plus the AI tutor, personalised feedback on your course models, and $300+ in partner discounts (PitchBook, FinChat, Koyfin, IBISWorld) |
Both student plans include full access to all seven CFI certifications (FMVA, CBCA, CMSA, FPAP, BIDA, FPWMP and FTIP), the 15 specializations, and the full course library of 250+ courses. The student discount does not limit what you can access, and CFI confirms you can upgrade from Self-Study to Full-Immersion at any time. For the plan-by-plan breakdown, see our CFI pricing guide.
How to get the student discount
- Go to CFI’s student pricing page.
- Sign up with your university-affiliated email address (a .edu address in the US, or your institution’s own domain elsewhere).
- The 50% discount applies automatically at checkout; there is no code to enter.
- Choose Self-Study or Full-Immersion. You can upgrade later if you start on Self-Study.
CFI verifies eligibility through the email domain. If verification fails, or your university does not issue student email addresses at all, CFI’s page says you can “submit alternate proof of current enrollment, such as a dated student ID card, enrollment letter, class schedule, tuition receipt, or transcript” to its support team. The document needs to show your name, your university and evidence of current enrolment.
Who qualifies?
Currently enrolled students at universities and colleges, at any level: undergraduates, master’s and MBA students, doctoral students, and community-college students. The test is current enrolment, not the type of degree. Two edge cases worth knowing:
- Alumni email addresses. Some universities keep them active for years. CFI’s rule is current enrolment, so an alumni address may pass the domain check, but you are relying on a loophole rather than a policy. Manual verification with a dated document is the honest route.
- Renewal after graduation. CFI states the student plan “renews at 50% off until canceled”. In practice that means the rate follows the subscription, not your enrolment status. If you cancel and come back later, you would need to qualify again.
What can students actually do with CFI?
The membership is only worth its price if you finish a certification, so pick one that matches your target job before you pay. The most useful paths for students:
- Finance and accounting majors: complete the FMVA before internship recruiting. It is the CFI credential recruiters know, and the three-statement and DCF models you build are exactly what interviewers ask about. Our FMVA cost guide covers the time commitment.
- Students targeting commercial banking: the CBCA teaches credit analysis the way a bank trains it, and is the CFI certification most relevant to regional-bank and credit-union analyst programmes.
- Corporate finance and FP&A: the FPAP covers budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis; CFI suggests taking it after the FMVA if you are new to finance.
- Business students who want data skills: the BIDA adds Power BI, SQL and Python for finance, which separates you from classmates with coursework alone.
- Pre-investment-banking students: use CFI for the technical foundation and pair it with interview-focused prep; our CFI vs Wall Street Prep and CFI vs Breaking Into Wall Street comparisons explain the split.
Whichever you choose, the mechanics are the same: each course ends with an assessment you pass at 80% with retakes allowed, and the certification is earned by passing a final exam at 70% or better. CFI says certifications typically take three to six months and specializations two to four weeks. Six of the seven certifications (all except FPAP) are accredited by Walbrook Institute London, formerly LIBF, and CFI is a NASBA-registered CPE sponsor and one of the first four Higher Learning Commission Endorsed Providers. Self-Study or Full-Immersion for a student?
Self-Study at $248.50 is the right default. Every certification, every course and every template is in it, and a student with a term-time schedule mostly needs the material, not the coaching. Full-Immersion at $423.50 earns its extra $175 in two situations: you want a CFI instructor to critique the models you build (the feedback is the part that improves interview answers), or you will actually use the partner tools, since the Full-Immersion partner discounts on PitchBook, FinChat, Koyfin and IBISWorld are worth more than the price gap if you would otherwise pay for them. Because CFI lets you upgrade at any time, start on Self-Study and move up only if you hit a wall.
Read the terms before you pay
Two things students routinely miss. First, CFI’s terms of service say pre-paid fees are not refundable except where the law requires it, and that cancelling only stops the next renewal; there is no cooling-off window, so use the free account to sample a course before buying. Second, the plan auto-renews at the student rate; CFI says you can manage or turn off auto-renewal from your account settings, so set a reminder before the anniversary if you only want one year.
CFI student discount vs other student offers
| Platform | Student pricing | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| CFI | $248.50/yr Self-Study, $423.50/yr Full-Immersion (50% off) | All seven certifications included; renews at the student rate |
| Coursera | No student discount on Coursera Plus ($59/mo or $399/yr); financial aid available per course | Best route for a free certificate is a financial-aid application; see our Coursera discount guide |
| DataCamp | Free through a DataCamp Classroom that your teacher creates; students cannot apply themselves | DataCamp Classrooms give premium access for a term; otherwise no student rate |
| Wall Street Prep | No public student rate; some university partnerships | Check whether your finance society or career centre has a deal |
| LinkedIn Learning | Free through many university libraries | Ask your library before paying for anything |
Stacking discounts
The student discount is the deepest standard offer CFI provides, and it is applied to the list price at checkout. During CFI’s seasonal sales the cart decides whether a promotion stacks; check the final figure before you pay rather than assuming. If you do not qualify as a student, our code AFF30 takes 30% off either plan at checkout ($347.90 Self-Study, $592.90 Full-Immersion), and our CFI special offers page tracks anything better.

Frequently asked questions
How much is the CFI student discount?
50% off either annual plan: Self-Study is $248.50 a year instead of $497, and Full-Immersion is $423.50 instead of $847 (prices read on CFI’s student pricing page on 11 September 2026). The discount applies automatically at checkout when you sign up with a university-affiliated email address; no code is needed.
Can I get the student rate without a university email address?
Yes. CFI’s student pricing page says that if your university does not issue email addresses, you can submit alternate proof of current enrolment, such as a dated student ID card, an enrolment letter, a class schedule, a tuition receipt or a transcript, showing your name, your university and evidence of current enrolment, and its support team will verify you manually.
Does the CFI student price renew at 50% off?
Yes. CFI states the student plan “renews at 50% off until canceled”, so you keep the rate as long as the subscription stays active. You can turn auto-renewal off in your account settings at any time; if you cancel and later re-subscribe after graduating, you would need to qualify again.
Is anything missing from the student plan?
No. The student plan is the same Self-Study or Full-Immersion membership at half price: all seven certifications, every specialization, the full course library, templates and case studies. Full-Immersion adds the AI tutor, personalised model feedback and $300+ in partner discounts (PitchBook, FinChat, Koyfin, IBISWorld), and you can upgrade from Self-Study at any time.
Can I keep my certifications after graduating?
Yes. A CFI certification is a blockchain-verified credential that stays yours after the subscription ends. You only need an active membership to access the course materials, so finish the certifications you want before you let the plan lapse.
Can I get a refund on a CFI student plan?
Do not count on one. CFI’s terms of service say pre-paid fees are not refundable except where the law requires it, and that cancelling only stops the next renewal. Use the free account to preview courses first, then treat the annual payment as final.
Can I stack the student discount with AFF30?
No, and you would not want to: the student rate is 50% off, deeper than the 30% our AFF30 code gives everyone else. AFF30 is the fallback if you cannot prove enrolment. Whether CFI’s seasonal sales stack on top of the student rate is decided at checkout, so check the cart before paying.
