QUICK VERDICT
Our rating: 4.2 / 5
- Best for: working cloud engineers and DevOps professionals with AWS experience who want structured practice in organization-level architecture: multi-account design, migrations, modernization and cost.
- Not for: AWS beginners (Udacity lists ten prerequisites) or anyone who wants AWS exam prep.
Bottom line: Udacity’s AWS Cloud Architect Nanodegree (nd063) is a 34-hour program with three reviewed projects, the last of which deploys an AI workload on Amazon Bedrock. It is rated 4.6 from 211 reviews and was updated August 20, 2026. Short enough to finish in one or two months of subscription, but only useful if you already have the prerequisites. Udacity’s Azure version (nd090) is reviewed further down.

RISK REVERSAL
Udacity’s Terms of Use (last updated January 16, 2026) give you seven days from your first purchase of a subscription or a single program to cancel for a full refund. After that, fees are not refundable, and canceling a monthly plan keeps your access until the end of the month you already paid for.
For AWS-based programs Udacity supplies the AWS account: you open the AWS console from the lesson’s Cloud Resources tab (Udacity Support), and Udacity sets a fixed budget or credits for each student’s AWS Cloud Labs (AWS Cloud Resource Best Practices). The practical risk is running that budget down with a resource you forgot to delete, not a surprise bill on your own card.

What Is the AWS Cloud Architect Nanodegree?
The AWS Cloud Architect Nanodegree (nd063) is Udacity’s AWS architecture program. It covers the work architects do above the level of a single application: network connectivity and multi-account environments, choosing and migrating architectures for workloads, and modernizing them for performance and cost. It is not exam prep for the AWS Solutions Architect certifications, although the skills overlap.
Its defining feature is the prerequisite list. Udacity names ten: application architecture, Linux, AWS CloudFormation, basic web development, DevOps, object-oriented programming basics, cloud development, AWS development, cloud computing fundamentals and command line basics. That tells you who it is for: engineers who already work on AWS and want structured architecture practice. For comparison, Udacity’s AWS Solutions Architect Associate Nanodegree lists one prerequisite and is the better starting point.
At 34 hours it is one of Udacity’s shorter Nanodegrees. The short length and heavy prerequisites work together: Udacity assumes you know the building blocks and spends the time on design decisions.
Cloud architect or solutions architect?
Job titles overlap, but the work differs in scope. A cloud architect usually owns the environment: how accounts are organized, how networks connect, which guardrails apply and what it all costs. A solutions architect usually designs a specific system on top of that environment. This program is about the first kind of work, which is why it starts with AWS Organizations and Control Tower rather than with a single application.
Curriculum Breakdown
Three content courses of about 11 hours each, from Udacity’s syllabus:
Designing AWS Architecture for Organizations (11 hours)
Network connectivity strategies (VPC configuration, Direct Connect and VPN, monitoring network traffic), multi-account environments with AWS Organizations and Control Tower (governance policies, centralized logging and notifications), and cost and visibility with AWS Cost Explorer, rightsizing and tagging.
- Architect Network Connectivity Strategies
- Design a Multi-Account AWS Environment
- Determine Cost and Visibility Strategies
- Project: Design and Architect Infrastructure for an Organization
Designing AWS Architecture for Workloads (11 hours)
Selecting architectures for data workloads with the Well-Architected Framework, migrating workloads with AWS discovery and transformation tools and AWS DMS, validating migrated data, and redesigning existing workloads with the Well-Architected Tool.
- Selecting Architecture for Workloads
- Migrating workloads
- Determining new Architecture for Cloud Workloads
- Project: Migrating a Credit Card Fraud Pipeline to AWS
Modernizing and Optimizing Architecture (11 hours)
Serverless and event-driven designs, infrastructure automation with AWS CloudFormation, performance work with CloudFront and Auto Scaling, and cost optimization with AWS Budgets and S3 lifecycle policies.
- Modernizing and Optimizing Workloads
- Designing Solutions to Meet Performance Objectives
- Identifying Opportunities for Cost Optimizations
- Project: Modernizing and Optimizing Infrastructure for AI Workloads and Solutions
Each course is four lessons: three teaching lessons and a project. The welcome and closing modules add about an hour. There is no exam-preparation course and no practice test, which is the clearest sign this is a practice program rather than certification prep.
What You Actually Build
- A consolidated multi-account AWS environment using AWS Organizations and Control Tower, with secure connectivity and governance
- Cost allocation and visibility using AWS Cost Explorer and tagging
- A migration plan and execution for a credit card fraud detection pipeline, including data validation
- A modernized, serverless and event-driven design automated with CloudFormation
- A scalable AI workload on Amazon Bedrock with cost controls
- Performance improvements using CloudFront and Auto Scaling
Each of the three projects is reviewed before it passes. The migration and Bedrock projects are the most portable to job interviews, because migration and AI workloads are where many AWS teams are spending time now.
Turning the projects into interview material
Architecture interviews are mostly whiteboard conversations: draw the design, explain the trade-offs, say what you would change at ten times the load or half the budget. For each project, keep the diagram, a one-page decision record (why Control Tower guardrails, why this migration path, why Bedrock rather than a self-hosted model) and the cost estimate you produced. That record is more useful in an interview than the Nanodegree certificate.
Pricing and Value
Udacity charges $249 a month, $846 for a four-month bundle (about $212 a month, 15% less than paying monthly, after which it converts to month-to-month), or $999 to buy a single program outright. A subscription covers the whole catalog of 500+ courses and programs. Source: nd063 program page, read 12 October 2026.
Live sale
Udacity sale: 50% off all programs. 4-month bundle $423 instead of $846. Verified 30 Oct 2026 09:16 UTC by the detector (HALLOWEEN50 $423.00 vs our code $507.60).
See the Udacity sale →At 34 hours, most people with the prerequisites can finish in one or two months, so month-to-month at $249 is usually cheaper than the $846 bundle unless you plan a second program. The $999 one-time price rarely makes sense here. If you also want the Azure variant, the subscription covers both: 34 plus 53 hours fits inside the four-month bundle.
Compared with other ways to learn AWS architecture:
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (SAA-C03). AWS’s own credential: $150, 65 questions in 130 minutes. Better known to recruiters; complementary to this hands-on program. See our AWS Solutions Architect certification guide.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional. $300, 75 questions in 180 minutes, and closer in scope to this program’s multi-account and migration content. AWS is updating it: registration for SAP-C03 opens October 27, 2026 and the last day to take SAP-C02 is November 16, 2026 (AWS).
- Pluralsight. A Cloud Guru’s AWS courses now sit inside Pluralsight, with hands-on labs.
- AWS Well-Architected Framework documentation. Free, and the basis of much of this program.
For engineers who want structure and reviewed projects, the program is good value. For a credential recruiters filter on, AWS’s certifications carry more weight.
If you are timing this around the Professional exam
Anyone booking the Solutions Architect Professional exam this autumn has a decision to make. SAP-C02 can be taken until November 16, 2026, and SAP-C03 registration opens on October 27, when AWS says it will publish the new exam’s details. If you are not ready to sit by mid-November, plan for SAP-C03 and wait for its exam guide before you buy prep material; this program’s multi-account, migration and cost content is useful practice for either version.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- Organization-level scope. Multi-account design, governance, migrations and modernization, beyond single workloads.
- Short. 34 hours, so one or two months of subscription for someone with the prerequisites.
- Current. Updated August 20, 2026, with a final project on Amazon Bedrock.
- Well rated. 4.6 from 211 reviews on Udacity’s page.
- Infrastructure as code. CloudFormation is treated as standard tooling.
- AWS labs supplied. Udacity provides the AWS account with a fixed lab budget.
Cons
- Ten prerequisites. Not a starting point; you need real AWS, Linux and DevOps experience.
- Not exam prep. No practice exams and not organized around any AWS exam.
- Limited depth in places. 34 hours covers the essentials but not every architectural pattern.
- AWS-only. The ideas transfer to Azure or Google Cloud; the tooling does not.
- Three projects. Fewer portfolio pieces than Udacity’s longer programs.
Who Should Take This Nanodegree
Take it if:
- You are a working cloud or DevOps engineer who wants to move into architecture work.
- You already know CloudFormation, Linux and AWS development.
- You plan to sit the AWS Solutions Architect Professional exam and want hands-on design practice alongside it.
- You are targeting cloud architect or senior cloud engineer roles at AWS-based companies.
- You want a short, focused program rather than a three-to-four-month one.
Skip it if:
- You are new to AWS: start with Cloud Practitioner material.
- Your goal is the SAA-C03 exam: take the AWS Solutions Architect Associate Nanodegree or a dedicated exam course.
- You work on Azure or Google Cloud: take that cloud’s architecture training instead.
- You want broader DevOps coverage: take Udacity’s Cloud DevOps Engineer Nanodegree.
- You build applications rather than infrastructure: take Udacity’s Cloud Developer Nanodegree (60 hours, JavaScript).
A quick readiness check
If you can answer yes to four of these five, you have the background the prerequisites describe:
- Have you written or edited a CloudFormation (or Terraform) template that someone else deployed?
- Can you explain the difference between a public and a private subnet, and when you need a NAT gateway?
- Have you deployed an application to EC2, containers or Lambda and kept it running?
- Are you comfortable on a Linux command line without a tutorial open?
- Have you read an AWS bill and found what was driving the cost?
Alternatives
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate (SAA-C03). AWS’s own credential. Take it alongside this program for hands-on practice plus the AWS-branded certification.
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional. Closer in scope to this program; moving from SAP-C02 to SAP-C03 (SAP-C02 ends November 16, 2026).
- Udacity AWS Solutions Architect Associate (nd066). 60 hours, one prerequisite, organized around the SAA-C03 domains.
- Udacity Cloud DevOps Engineer Nanodegree. Broader DevOps focus: CI/CD, containers and monitoring.
- Pluralsight. Video-led AWS architecture courses and labs, including the former A Cloud Guru library.
Data-focused architects should also look at our Udacity Data Engineering with AWS review and the AWS Data Engineer certification guide; ML-focused ones at the AWS Machine Learning Engineer review.
Where this program fits in an AWS architect path
A sequence that makes sense for most people, and where Udacity’s two AWS architecture programs fall in it:
| Step | What | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Foundations | AWS Cloud Practitioner material or the exam, if AWS is new to you | $100 exam |
| 2. Associate level | The SAA-C03 exam, prepared for with Udacity’s nd066 or a cheaper video course plus practice exams | $150 exam |
| 3. Hands-on hours | Real work on AWS: what nd063’s ten prerequisites assume, and what AWS expects of its exam candidates | Your job or side projects |
| 4. Architecture practice | This program (nd063): multi-account design, migrations and modernization with reviewed projects | One or two months of Udacity |
| 5. Professional level | The Solutions Architect Professional exam, moving from SAP-C02 to SAP-C03 | $300 exam |
Steps 4 and 5 reinforce each other: the program gives you the design practice, and the exam gives you the credential recruiters filter on.
What learners report: reviews and Reddit (October 2026)
Udacity scores well overall: 4.5 on Trustpilot from 3,406 reviews and 4.7 on Course Report from 627. We read the 40 most recent Trustpilot reviews (20 September to 12 October 2026). Thirty-five gave four or five stars, mostly short notes posted after finishing a course, and several came from employer-sponsored training. The five low ratings are the useful part, because they describe what can go wrong:
- Slow or stuck project reviews: one learner had a review pending for three weeks and several support tickets open.
- Workspace problems: a browser terminal that would not install Python packages.
- Content quality on newer courses: one reviewer found mistakes that, in their view, no one had checked before release.
Udacity’s own project review timeline says reviews are often done in 48 to 72 hours but can take up to a week at busy times, and that canceling a submission to resubmit only pushes you back in the queue. Plan a week of slack per project, keep a local copy of everything you submit, and start the next lesson while you wait. These are small samples: they show what can happen, not how often it does.
There is little recent Reddit discussion of this specific program. The threads that exist about Udacity in 2026 are about the platform rather than the syllabus: a May 2026 r/Udacity post described project submissions failing with a generic error and template replies from support. If that happens to you, keep the error text and your submission files, and ask support to escalate rather than resubmitting repeatedly.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Udacity AWS Cloud Architect Nanodegree worth it?
It is worth it for cloud or DevOps engineers who already work with AWS and want structured practice in organization-level architecture: multi-account setups, migrations, modernization and cost control. At 34 hours it can be finished inside one or two months of subscription. It is not worth it for AWS beginners or for anyone whose only goal is passing an AWS exam.
How long does this Nanodegree take?
Udacity estimates 34 hours: three 11-hour courses plus short welcome and closing modules. At 8 to 10 hours a week that is about a month of content, plus time for three reviewed projects.
How much does the Udacity Cloud Architect Nanodegree cost?
Udacity charges $249 a month, $846 for a four-month bundle or $999 for the program outright. Because the AWS program is only 34 hours, one or two months on the monthly plan is usually cheapest. Udacity runs percentage-off promotions most months, and our links pass the best discount we can verify to checkout.
Do I need AWS certifications before starting?
No certification is required, but Udacity lists ten prerequisites, including Linux, AWS CloudFormation, DevOps, application architecture and basic web development. Someone who has worked hands-on with AWS for six to twelve months, or holds the Solutions Architect Associate, is well placed.
Does this prepare me for the AWS Solutions Architect Associate exam?
Indirectly. It covers many of the same services, but it is not organized around the exam domains and has no practice exams. For SAA-C03, Udacity’s own AWS Solutions Architect Associate Nanodegree (nd066) or a dedicated exam course is the better fit.
Cloud architect vs solutions architect: what is the difference?
The titles overlap and many employers use them interchangeably. A cloud architect usually owns the cloud environment as a whole: account structure, networking, governance, security baselines and cost. A solutions architect usually designs specific systems for a product or a customer on top of that environment. This program leans toward the first; the AWS Solutions Architect certifications test the second.
What is the difference between AWS Cloud Architect and Cloud DevOps Engineer Nanodegrees?
Cloud Architect focuses on designing AWS environments: account structure, connectivity, migrations, performance and cost. Cloud DevOps Engineer focuses on building and operating delivery pipelines, containers and infrastructure as code. Architects design the environment; DevOps engineers automate how software moves through it.
Does this Nanodegree cover cost optimization?
Yes, in two places: cost and visibility strategies with AWS Cost Explorer, rightsizing and tagging in the first course, and cost optimization with AWS Budgets and S3 lifecycle policies in the third.
How many prerequisites do I actually need?
Udacity lists ten. In practice, if you can write CloudFormation templates, work in Linux and have shipped an application on AWS, you have enough. If you are new to cloud, start with Cloud Practitioner material and come back.
Is cloud architecture in demand?
Spending is still growing fast. Synergy Research put Q2 2026 cloud infrastructure spending at $143 billion, up 43% on a year earlier, with GenAI-specific cloud services growing 165%. Architect roles still expect several years of hands-on experience, so demand favors engineers moving up rather than newcomers.
Will this help me get a Cloud Architect job?
It helps as evidence of structured practice, especially the three reviewed projects, which you can walk through in interviews. Most cloud architect roles also expect several years of hands-on experience, and many list AWS certifications, so treat the Nanodegree as one part of the case rather than the whole of it.
Is the Nanodegree certificate accredited?
No. It is a Udacity certificate, not an academic credential or an AWS certification. Udacity marks the AWS program as eligible for credit toward its own master’s degrees, which matters only if you plan to continue into one.
Does the Azure Cloud Architect program prepare you for AZ-305?
Partly. The Azure program covers design topics that AZ-305 tests, such as high availability, backup and recovery, migration, cost and security, but it is not an exam course. Microsoft also requires the Azure Administrator Associate (AZ-104) before it awards the Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification.
How much does a cloud architect make?
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics does not list cloud architect as its own occupation. Its closest one, computer network architects, had a median wage of $134,050 in May 2025. Senior cloud architects at large employers often earn more, and total compensation can include stock and bonus.
How long does Udacity take to review a project?
Udacity says reviews are often finished in 48 to 72 hours and can take up to a week when volume is high. With three projects in this program, plan for up to three weeks of review time across the whole program.
Final Verdict
Udacity’s AWS Cloud Architect Nanodegree is a strong, short program for engineers ready to move from building workloads to designing AWS environments. Its 34 hours cover multi-account design, migration and modernization, its three projects are reviewed, and its final project puts an AI workload on Amazon Bedrock. The catch is the prerequisite list: without real AWS, Linux and CloudFormation experience you will struggle. If you have that background, the return on one or two months of subscription is good; if you do not, start with foundational AWS material.

Azure variant: Cloud Architect using Microsoft Azure (nd090)
Udacity also offers Cloud Architect using Microsoft Azure (nd090), built in collaboration with Microsoft: rated Advanced, about 53 hours, 5 courses, 19 lessons and 3 projects, updated September 23, 2026. Udacity lists eleven prerequisites, including Azure compute and networking services, Azure development, container orchestration, CI/CD, VPN, virtual machine management and the Azure CLI. Instructors: Pratik Shah (Cloud Solutions Architect), Gary McLeary and Ed Clausen. Source: Udacity’s nd090 page, read 12 October 2026.
Curriculum:
- Designing Infrastructure and Managing Migration (16 hours): high availability, backup and recovery plans, migrating on-premises systems with Azure’s built-in tools, monitoring and optimizing with Azure Monitor and Advisor, and automation with ARM templates, Azure Policy and Azure Blueprints. Project: move an on-premises environment to Azure.
- Cost Optimization and Monitoring (about 18 hours): the Azure Pricing and TCO calculators, Azure Cost Management + Billing, Azure Policy, dashboards, Log Analytics and alerts, and automating cost optimization with the Usage, Billing and Budget APIs. Project: cost optimization and monitoring for a company.
- Azure Cloud Security (about 18 hours): identity and access with conditional access, MFA and Privileged Identity Management, AD Connect, Zero Trust network design with firewalls, Azure Bastion and just-in-time access, Key Vault and encryption, Security Center and Microsoft Sentinel. Project: secure an enterprise’s move to the cloud.
Why pick the Azure variant?
- You target employers that run Microsoft, common in banking, government, healthcare and large enterprises.
- Your background is Active Directory, Windows Server or Microsoft 365 administration.
- You want more security and identity depth than the AWS program offers: a full course on it.
- Microsoft is the second-largest cloud provider, with 20% of the market in Q2 2026 against Amazon’s 28% (Synergy Research).
Cost: the same Udacity subscription. The syllabus includes a lesson on using Udacity-provided Azure credentials, so you should not need your own Azure subscription for the projects; check the classroom before you start.
Certification: the program covers design areas that the AZ-305 exam tests (infrastructure, migration, cost, security) but it is not an exam course. To earn the Azure Solutions Architect Expert certification you must pass AZ-305 and already hold the Azure Administrator Associate (Microsoft). See our Azure Solutions Architect certification guide.
