The Udacity Microsoft Agentic AI Nanodegree (nd904), which Udacity’s page also titles “Agentic AI on Microsoft Azure”, is a 56-hour, intermediate program that teaches you to build agents, agentic workflows and multi-agent systems with Microsoft Foundry, Semantic Kernel and Cosmos DB. It is the Azure version of Udacity’s agentic AI curriculum.

QUICK VERDICT

Our rating: 4.0 / 5

  • Best for: Python developers at companies that build on Microsoft Azure and want graded projects with Foundry, Semantic Kernel and Cosmos DB
  • Not for: developers who are not committed to Azure, anyone wanting Copilot Studio or low-code agents, and learners who mainly want a Microsoft certification

Bottom line: a capable Azure agent program with four business projects, held back by being brand new (one learner review) and by teaching Semantic Kernel just as Microsoft moves new work to its successor, Agent Framework.

The Syllabus, Course by Course

These are the four courses as Udacity’s program page listed them on 11 October 2026:

Course Hours (Udacity) What it covers Project
Prompting for Effective LLM Reasoning and Planning with Microsoft Foundry about 11.5 Role-based, chain-of-thought and ReAct prompting in Foundry and its Agent Service, prompt refinement, chaining, feedback loops AeroTurbine Solutions: Building an Agentic Supply Chain
Agentic AI Workflows with Microsoft Azure about 15 Workflow modeling and the five workflow patterns implemented with Semantic Kernel AgentQuant: Agentic Data Analysis
Building AI Agents with Microsoft Azure about 14.5 Tools, structured outputs with Pydantic, state, memory, external APIs, web search with Bing Search, RAG and long-term memory in Cosmos DB, evaluation AI Travel Concierge Agent
Multi-Agent AI Systems with Microsoft Azure about 15 Multi-agent architecture, orchestration, routing, shared state and multi-agent RAG with Semantic Kernel VectraBank: Agentic RAG for Banking

1. Prompting for Effective LLM Reasoning and Planning with Microsoft Foundry

You build role-based agents in Microsoft Foundry and its Agent Service, then apply chain-of-thought, ReAct, prompt refinement, chaining with validation gates, and feedback loops. The AeroTurbine project is a multi-agent supply chain workflow in Foundry that generates bills of materials, checks inventory, analyzes suppliers and creates purchase orders.

2. Agentic AI Workflows with Microsoft Azure

This course moves to Semantic Kernel: workflow modeling, then prompt chaining, routing, parallelization, evaluator-optimizer and orchestrator-worker patterns. The AgentQuant project cleans, analyzes and visualizes CSV data and writes reports using asynchronous Semantic Kernel agents, with a human approving key steps and agents executing Python code.

3. Building AI Agents with Microsoft Azure

The core agent-engineering course: tools, Pydantic structured outputs, state, short-term memory, external APIs, web search with Bing Search, RAG and long-term memory in Cosmos DB, and agent evaluation, all in Semantic Kernel. The project is a travel concierge agent for a premium bank that plans trips end to end and recommends a credit card, using tools, RAG and two kinds of memory.

4. Multi-Agent AI Systems with Microsoft Azure

You design and implement multi-agent architectures, orchestration, routing, shared state and multi-agent RAG with Semantic Kernel. The VectraBank project is a multi-agent system that answers banking customers’ questions with agentic retrieval.

Semantic Kernel vs Microsoft Agent Framework

This is the most important thing to understand before you buy. Microsoft’s own Agent Framework documentation says “the Agent Framework is the direct successor” to Semantic Kernel and AutoGen, “created by the same teams”, and calls it “the next generation of both.” Microsoft publishes migration guides from both.

That does not make the program a waste: Semantic Kernel is still documented and supported, its concepts (plugins, agents, orchestration, memory) carry over, and the patterns you learn are framework-neutral. But if you are starting a new Azure agent project in late 2026, expect to write it in Agent Framework, and budget a few hours to translate what you learn.

Does It Prepare You for a Microsoft Certification?

No Microsoft exam is built on this syllabus, but two current Microsoft credentials are close in subject:

Microsoft credential Exam What it tests Fit with this program
Azure AI Apps and Agents Developer Associate AI-103 ($165 USD) Planning and managing Azure AI solutions (25-30%), generative AI and agentic solutions (30-35%), computer vision, text analysis and information extraction (10-15% each) Partial: strong on Foundry and agents, nothing on vision or text analytics
Agentic AI Business Solutions Architect (Expert) AB-100 ($165 USD) Agent solutions across Dynamics 365, Power Platform and Copilot Studio; requires a prerequisite Dynamics 365 or Power Platform associate certification Low: different tools and audience

Microsoft’s older AI-102 exam (Azure AI Engineer Associate) is retired; Microsoft’s page now marks the certification and its renewal as retired. If AI-103 is your goal, Microsoft’s free AI-103 study guide is the place to start, and this Nanodegree can supply the hands-on agent practice the exam’s largest section expects.

How It Compares With Udacity’s Other Agentic Programs

Udacity’s agentic AI family includes these six Nanodegrees. They share most of their structure, so the choice comes down to tools and project settings:

Udacity program Length Learner rating (11 Oct 2026) Main tools Projects set in
Agentic AI (nd900) 53 hours 4.8 from 581 Python, OpenAI API Trip planning, project management, research, sales
LangChain and LangGraph (nd901) 26 hours 4.7 from 21 LangChain, LangGraph Reports, energy advice, knowledge agents
Google Agentic AI Engineer (nd906) 55 hours 4.5 from 4 Google ADK, Vertex AI, Gemini Legal, research, retail, banking
Microsoft Agentic AI (nd904) 56 hours 5.0 from 1 Microsoft Foundry, Semantic Kernel, Cosmos DB Supply chain, data analysis, travel, banking
Agentic AI for Financial Services (nd902) 65 hours 4.8 from 103 Python, PydanticAI Payments, fraud, trading
Agentic AI for Life Sciences (nd903) 48 hours 5.0 from 1 LangChain, LangGraph, PubMed and ClinVar APIs Drug safety, repositioning, rare disease

The Microsoft and Google versions are the only ones that teach a cloud vendor’s own agent tooling; the others use the OpenAI API with open-source frameworks. See our reviews of the Google Agentic AI Engineer and the LangChain and LangGraph programs.

How It Relates to the Base Agentic AI Nanodegree

The most useful thing to know before enrolling: this program uses the same four-course structure as Udacity’s general Agentic AI Nanodegree (nd900). Put the two syllabi side by side and the lesson titles run in parallel. What changes is the data, the examples and the four projects, which are all set in Azure business scenarios: supply chain, data analysis, travel and banking.

Course (shared structure) What every version of the program teaches
1. Prompting for reasoning and planning Role-based prompting, chain-of-thought and ReAct, prompt refinement, prompt chaining, feedback loops
2. Agentic workflows Workflow modeling plus five patterns: prompt chaining, routing, parallelization, evaluator-optimizer, orchestrator-workers
3. Building agents Tools, structured outputs, state, short- and long-term memory, external APIs, web search, databases, agentic RAG, evaluation
4. Multi-agent systems Architecture, orchestration, routing and data flow, shared state, multi-agent RAG

That is good news and bad news. The good news is that the agent engineering is the same curriculum that has 581 learner reviews on the base program, averaging 4.8. The bad news is that you are not getting a different or deeper technical program, and you should not take both: one covers the other. Choose the domain version if its projects make a better portfolio for the jobs you want.

How Much Does the Microsoft Agentic AI Nanodegree Cost?

Udacity sells its Nanodegrees as part of a subscription to the whole catalog, and for some programs as a one-time purchase. These are the prices on the Microsoft Agentic AI Nanodegree page on 11 October 2026:

Plan List price Today (50% off) What you get
Monthly subscription $249 / month $125 / month The whole Udacity catalog; cancel anytime
4-month bundle $846 ($212 / month) $423 for 4 months The 15% bundle discount covers the first 4 months, then the plan rolls to month-to-month
Buy just this program $999 one-time $499.50 one-time The Microsoft Agentic AI Nanodegree only

On 11 October Udacity was advertising 40% off any plan for new members, and the discounted figures above are what the program page showed with that offer applied. Our link carries the reader code onlinecourseing40, which is the same 40%. If Udacity is running a bigger sale when you read this, check that your cart shows the larger discount before you pay.

Which plan is cheaper depends on your pace. At today’s 50% off, four months on the bundle cost $423, less than the $499.50 one-time purchase, so the subscription wins if you finish within about four months. The one-time purchase makes sense if you expect to take longer, but it covers this program alone, while the subscription opens every other Nanodegree.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Hands-on with the Microsoft stack an Azure shop actually uses: Foundry, Agent Service, Semantic Kernel, Cosmos DB and Bing Search.
  • Four business projects, including a supply chain workflow and a data-analysis system with human approval steps.
  • Updated in late September 2026.
  • The agent patterns transfer to other frameworks.

Cons

  • Teaches Semantic Kernel, which Microsoft now positions as superseded by Agent Framework.
  • Only one learner review so far.
  • Not aligned to a Microsoft exam; AI-103 also tests vision and text analytics that the program does not cover.
  • Less portable than the LangChain version if you leave Azure.

Who Should Take It, and Who Should Skip It

Take it if your company builds on Azure, you will be asked to ship agents in Foundry, and you want structured projects with reviewer feedback rather than piecing it together from documentation.

Skip it if you are not tied to Azure (the LangChain version is shorter and more portable), you want low-code agents in Copilot Studio, or your main goal is a Microsoft certification, in which case start with Microsoft Learn.

WHAT WE CORRECTED IN THIS UPDATE

An earlier version of this review, written in May 2026, described parts of this program that do not appear in Udacity’s published syllabus. We re-read the program page line by line on 11 October 2026 and fixed the following:

  • The May version called the program “co-developed” and “co-branded” with Microsoft. Udacity’s page does not describe a Microsoft partnership, so we removed the claim.
  • It said the program took “2 months” in a 2-week plus three 3-week structure. Udacity lists 56 hours.
  • It quoted the 4-month bundle at $848. Udacity’s price is $846.
  • It said this was the only agentic program that requires Azure basics and had the heaviest prerequisite list. The general Agentic AI Nanodegree also lists Azure basics, and the Financial Services version lists seven prerequisites to this program’s six.
  • It described three capstone projects. There are four, one per course, including the AgentQuant data-analysis project it left out.
  • Its comparison table gave the LangChain program as “1 month” and the others as “2 months”. Udacity lists hours: 26 for LangChain, 55 for Google, 53 for the base program and 56 for this one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Udacity Microsoft Agentic AI Nanodegree worth it?

It is worth it for developers at companies that build on Microsoft Azure and want hands-on projects with Microsoft Foundry, Semantic Kernel and Cosmos DB. It is less attractive if you are not committed to Azure, and Microsoft now points new agent work to its Agent Framework, the successor to Semantic Kernel.

Is this program made with Microsoft?

Udacity’s program page does not describe a Microsoft partnership. The program is named for the Microsoft tools it teaches, and one of its seven instructors is listed as an applied scientist at Microsoft. An earlier version of this review called it co-branded with Microsoft; we could not verify that.

Does it prepare you for a Microsoft certification?

Not directly. The closest exam is AI-103, Developing AI Apps and Agents on Azure, which earns the Azure AI Apps and Agents Developer Associate. AI-103 overlaps on Foundry and agents but also tests computer vision, text analysis and information extraction, which this program does not teach. Use Microsoft Learn’s free AI-103 materials alongside it if you want the certification.

What is Semantic Kernel, and is it still worth learning?

Semantic Kernel is Microsoft’s open-source SDK for building AI agents in C#, Python and Java. Microsoft describes its newer Agent Framework as the direct successor to Semantic Kernel and AutoGen, built by the same teams, and publishes a migration guide. The concepts this program teaches transfer, but expect to move to Agent Framework for new projects.

What is Microsoft Foundry?

Microsoft Foundry is Microsoft’s platform for building, deploying and managing AI apps and agents on Azure, including its Agent Service. The first course in this program uses it for prompting and agent workflows.

How long does the Microsoft Agentic AI Nanodegree take?

Udacity estimates 56 hours across four courses, 63 lessons and four projects. At about 8 hours a week, that is around seven weeks.

Is Microsoft Copilot agentic AI?

Microsoft has added agent features to Copilot, and its Copilot Studio is a low-code tool for building agents. This Nanodegree does not teach Copilot Studio; it teaches developer tools (Foundry and Semantic Kernel) in Python.

Do I need Azure experience?

Udacity lists Azure basics as a prerequisite, alongside basic Python, API fluency, basic prompting, generative AI fluency and the OpenAI API. The general Agentic AI Nanodegree lists Azure basics too, so this is not unique to the Microsoft version.

Final Verdict

The Microsoft Agentic AI Nanodegree does what its title says: four solid projects that teach agent engineering on Azure with Foundry, Semantic Kernel and Cosmos DB. We rate it 4.0 out of 5, down from our earlier 4.3, because it is barely reviewed, it is not certification prep, and Microsoft now steers new work to Agent Framework. For an Azure developer who wants guided, reviewed projects, it is still a sensible buy; everyone else should start with the LangChain or general version.
