A PMP practice exam is the only way to find out, before you pay PMI’s $425 to $675 exam fee, whether you can answer 180 scenario questions in four hours. The problem in late 2026 is that much of the free material online was written for the old exam. PMI changed the PMP in July 2026, moving a quarter of the questions into the Business Environment domain, and many question banks have not caught up.
We checked the free and paid PMP practice exams that searchers find most often against the July 2026 exam: how many questions each has, whether it says it covers the new exam content outline, what it costs and how long you get access. Then we cover how many practice exams to take, what score means you are ready and how to review a mock so that your next score goes up.
60-SECOND VERDICT
Bottom line: Start with a free 2026 set to find your baseline, then buy one full-length bank with four exams. Take PMI’s own $99 practice exam in your final week as the closest thing to the real test.
- Best free start: Oliver Lehmann’s 180 free questions for the 2026 exam, or PMAspirant’s free 180-question simulator
- Best value bank: TIA PMP mock exams on Udemy: four full exams, 732 questions, updated September 2026
- Most official: PMI’s PMP Practice Exam, $99, one 180-question exam with unlimited retakes
- Longer study: PMI Study Hall, $59 or $79 for three months, or the PM PrepCast simulator from $99
- Ready when: you score about 70% or more on full-length exams, consistently, with no weak domain

Before you judge a practice exam, know what it is meant to imitate. According to PMI, the PMP is 180 questions in 240 minutes, with two optional 10-minute breaks, taken at a Pearson VUE test center or online. That works out to about 80 seconds per question.
The content changed in July 2026. PMI’s new-exam page lists the new domain weights and what it added: AI, sustainability and stakeholder engagement in project-based scenarios, and a stronger focus on outcomes, value and business impact. Training providers date the switch to 9 July 2026.
| Domain | Before July 2026 | From July 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| People | 42% | 33% |
| Process | 50% | 41% |
| Business Environment | 8% | 26% |
Business Environment more than tripled. On a 180-question exam that is roughly 47 questions, up from about 14, on topics such as compliance, benefits, organizational change and the business case. A practice bank written for the 2021 exam under-tests exactly the area that grew most.
PMI also says the core principles have not changed and that candidates already studying older material should keep going. The practical reading is that an older course is still useful for concepts, but your practice questions should be written for the 2026 outline.
Why most free PMP questions online are out of date
Search for free PMP questions and one of the first results is PMI’s own sample questions PDF. It is a single page with three questions, and the file was created in September 2008. It is a curiosity, not practice.
The wider problem is age. Oliver Lehmann, a PMP trainer who has published free questions for years, keeps a list of other free providers on his site, and most entries on it are labeled for the 2021 exam. A popular r/pmp thread from February 2026 made the same complaint: most practice questions did not prepare candidates for the format of the new exam.
Before you spend hours on any question bank, free or paid, check four things:
| Check | What a current bank shows | Red flag |
|---|---|---|
| Exam version | Says it covers the 2026 exam or the exam content outline in effect from July 2026 | Mentions only the 2021 exam, or carries a 2024 date in its title |
| Domain balance | About 33% People, 41% Process, 26% Business Environment | Business Environment at under 10% of questions |
| Reference material | PMBOK Guide 8th edition and the Agile Practice Guide | Asks you to memorize PMBOK 6 process groups and inputs/outputs |
| Format | 180-question exams with a 240-minute timer and explanations for every option | Short quizzes only, or answers without explanations |
One example from our check: a Udemy practice test with more than 2,600 ratings, last updated in May 2026, is still titled for the 2024 exam and tells students to memorize PMBOK 6 processes daily. It is not a bad-faith product, but it was built for an exam that no longer exists.
The best free PMP practice exams (checked 9 October 2026)
These are the free options that say they cover the 2026 exam. None of them earns us anything, which is why they are named rather than linked; each is easy to find by searching its name.
| Free resource | Questions | Covers 2026 exam? | Sign-up | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oliver Lehmann, free PMP practice questions (2026 edition) | 180, in three packs of 60 | Yes (separate page for exams from 9 July 2026) | None | A free full-length baseline |
| PMAspirant free PMP exam simulator | 180, one exam | Yes (ordered by 2026 domain) | None | Practicing on a Pearson VUE-style screen |
| PM PrepCast free PMP exam questions | 120 | Yes (says updated for 2026 and PMBOK 8th) | None | Sampling a paid simulator before buying |
| PMLearning free PMP practice exam | 25, plus 25 more after you submit | Yes | None | A quick check that includes a case-study set |
| PMI’s free introduction to the PMP | None (a 60-minute course) | Yes | PMI account | Deciding whether the PMP is for you |
Oliver Lehmann’s 180 free questions
Lehmann’s 2026 set is a final-check exam: 180 questions split into three packs of 60, with a 240-minute overall time budget that you pace yourself. A study mode shows every answer with an explanation, and your progress is saved in the browser. The question types include single-choice, multi-select, reordering, matching and fill-in. Lehmann notes that the real exam can also use hotspot, video and linked-scenario items, which his set covers in reasoning but not in interface. PDF versions are available for offline study.
PMAspirant’s free simulator
This is one 180-question exam laid out to look like the Pearson VUE interface, last updated on 3 October 2026. Questions follow the order of the 2026 outline: People in questions 1 to 60, Process in 61 to 134 and Business Environment in 135 to 180. Because the questions are fixed rather than randomized, you can drill one domain at a time, though it also means the domain order gives away what each block is testing.
PM PrepCast and PMLearning
PM PrepCast publishes 120 free questions from its paid simulator, which is the easiest way to judge that product before paying for it. PMLearning gives 25 scenario questions, including a case study, and adds 25 more once you submit; no account is needed. Both are sales funnels for paid simulators, which is fine as long as you treat them as samples.
HOW TO USE FREE QUESTIONS
Take one free full-length set early, timed, to get a baseline and to learn the pace. Save a second full set for the middle of your preparation. Free sets are smaller and less tested than paid banks, so they work best as checkpoints rather than as your main practice.
PMI’s official options: the $99 practice exam vs Study Hall
PMI sells two practice products, and searchers often ask which to buy. They do different jobs.
The PMP Practice Exam costs $99 and contains one complete exam: 180 questions delivered in three timed sections, matching the structure of the real test, with unlimited retakes. Afterward you get exam-style results for each of the three domains and explanations for every question. It also earns 4 PDUs, which count toward renewal once you are certified.
PMI Study Hall is a subscription study tool. Essentials costs $59 and Plus costs $79, each for three months of access, after which it bills again every quarter until you cancel. PMI notes that you cannot upgrade from Essentials to Plus after buying, so choose once.
| PMP Practice Exam | Study Hall Essentials | Study Hall Plus | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | $99 one-time | $59 per 3 months | $79 per 3 months |
| Full-length exams (180 questions) | 1, unlimited retakes | 2 | 3 |
| Mini exams (10 questions) | None | 10 | 20 |
| Knowledge quizzes | None | None | 5 |
| Extra practice questions | None | 330 | 330 |
| Lessons, flashcards, case studies | No | Yes | Yes |
| CAPM-to-PMP bridge content | No | No | Yes |
| Domain-level results | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Our view: if you have done a course and want one honest measure of readiness, the $99 practice exam is the better buy. It is written by the organization that writes the real exam, and taking it in your final week tells you whether to keep your booking. If you are still early and want structured review alongside practice, Study Hall Essentials gives you two full exams plus 330 extra questions for less money, as long as you remember to cancel the renewal.
Paid PMP exam simulators compared
A paid bank is worth buying for one reason: volume of current, explained questions. The real benefit of a practice exam is the review afterward, and that needs explanations for why each wrong option is wrong.

TIA PMP mock exams: the best value
The TIA PMP mock exams come from the same team as Andrew Ramdayal’s PMP course, the most commonly mentioned course in r/pmp pass reports. On 9 October 2026 the set had four full-length mocks (one of 192 questions and three of 180, so 732 in all) with a 4-hour limit each, a 4.4 rating from 3,657 reviews and nearly 50,000 students. It was last updated in September 2026 and is written for the 2026 exam and the PMBOK Guide 8th edition. Every question has an explanation of why each option is right or wrong.
On 9 October it cost $74.99 to buy outright, which gives lifetime access, or it is included in Udemy’s Personal Plan subscription from $13 a month. Udemy discounts its courses often, so check the price on the day. If you already used Ramdayal’s course for your 35 hours, these mocks match its approach.
Yassine Tounsi PMP practice tests: a second bank
A second bank means fresh questions once you have worked through the first. Yassine Tounsi’s PMP practice tests offer 720 questions aligned with the PMBOK Guide 8th edition and the 2026 exam content outline, rated 4.5 from 2,041 reviews with more than 21,000 students, and updated in September 2026. It cost $69.99 outright on 9 October, or comes with the Udemy subscription. Use it after the TIA set, or instead of it if you want a different writer’s style.

PM PrepCast Exam Simulator
PM PrepCast’s simulator is the long-standing paid option outside Udemy, and its pricing is clear: $99 for 30 days with two full exams and 960 questions, $119 for 60 days with three exams and 1,340 questions, or $149 for 90 days with four exams and 1,920 questions. All tiers say they follow the current exam content outline. The main drawback is time-limited access: the Essential tier cannot be extended, so buy it only when your exam date is booked. PrepCast offers a refund within 30 days if you meet its policy conditions. We do not earn from PrepCast.
Master of Project Academy: course and simulator together
If you have not done your 35 hours yet, Master of Project Academy bundles both. Its PMP course is mapped to the exam content outline in effect since 9 July 2026 and the PMBOK Guide 8th edition, includes more than 750 practice questions and a simulator with nine full exams, and costs $99 a month or $547 a year, with a 7-day money-back guarantee. It suits candidates who want one subscription rather than a separate course and bank.

How many PMP practice exams should you take?
Plan on three to four full-length timed exams, plus shorter domain quizzes earlier in your study. That is why most paid banks include four full exams. More than that rarely helps unless you are retaking the PMP after a failed attempt.
The order matters more than the count. A sensible sequence is:
- A free full-length set at the start of your study, to set a baseline and learn the pace.
- Domain quizzes while you study, weighted toward Business Environment if your materials predate July 2026.
- Two or three full mocks from a paid bank in the last three to four weeks, each followed by a full review.
- PMI’s practice exam in the final week, as the last check before you sit the real thing.
Space full mocks at least two or three days apart. A four-hour exam can take nearly as long again to review properly, and the review is where most of the improvement happens.
What practice score means you’re ready
PMI does not publish a pass mark for the PMP, and its practice exam reports results by domain rather than as a pass or fail. That leaves candidates relying on rules of thumb from training providers. Master of Project Academy, for example, recommends scoring at least 70% on its quizzes, simulator and sample exams before booking, and other providers give similar guidance.
Three cautions apply to any target:
- Banks differ in difficulty. A consistent 68% on a hard bank can be stronger evidence than 82% on an easy one. Compare your scores within the same bank over time.
- Consistency beats a single high score. One 80% followed by two 60s is not readiness. Look for three full exams in a row at or above your target.
- No domain should lag. With Business Environment at 26%, a weak score there can sink an otherwise strong result.
| Your full-mock pattern | What it usually means | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Below 60% on several mocks | Content gaps, not test technique | Return to the course material for your weakest domain before taking another full mock |
| 60% to 69%, rising | Close; mostly interpretation errors | Keep an error log and review every question, including the ones you got right |
| 70% or more, three times running | Ready on most providers’ guidance | Take PMI’s practice exam, then sit the real exam within two weeks |
| High overall, one domain low | A domain gap the overall score hides | Drill that domain with quizzes, then take one more full mock |
How to review a practice exam so your score goes up
Taking practice exams without reviewing them is mostly a way to measure yourself, not to improve. A useful review sorts every miss into one of three causes:
- Knowledge gap: you did not know the concept. Fix it with your course or the PMBOK Guide.
- Misread question: you knew the concept but missed a word such as first, next or best. Fix it by slowing down on the last sentence of each question.
- Mindset error: you chose what you would do at work rather than what PMI considers best practice, for example escalating before analyzing. Fix it by reading the explanation for every option.
Keep a simple error log with the question topic, the domain, the cause and the rule you learned. After two or three mocks, patterns appear: most candidates find that one cause accounts for most of their misses.
Review the questions you got right as well. If you guessed, it counts as a miss for review purposes.
Finally, practice the pacing. At about 80 seconds per question, a block of 60 questions takes around 80 minutes. If you are behind at the first break, flag hard questions and move on rather than spending three minutes on one.
A six-week PMP practice plan
| Week | Practice focus | Full exams |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Free full-length baseline (Lehmann or PMAspirant), then review it | 1 |
| 2 | Domain quizzes: People and Process, with an error log | 0 |
| 3 | Domain quizzes: Business Environment; first paid full mock | 1 |
| 4 | Review weak areas; second paid full mock | 1 |
| 5 | Third paid full mock; targeted quizzes on any lagging domain | 1 |
| 6 | PMI’s $99 practice exam; light review; sit the exam | 1 |
This assumes you have finished your 35 hours of training. If you have not, our PMP certification requirements guide explains what counts, and the plan above starts once the course is done.
Avoid ‘actual exam question’ dumps
Some sites, including some that rank for PMP question searches, advertise actual or real exam questions. These are either leaked items or invented ones presented as leaks. Using them risks breaching the exam rules every candidate agrees to, and PMI describes exam misconduct in its certification FAQ. Many dump collections were also written for the 2021 exam, so they are out of date as well as risky. A current, explained practice bank does the same job without either problem.
Do you still need a PMP course?
Practice exams do not replace training. PMI requires 35 hours of project management education before you can apply, or an active CAPM. A practice bank alone does not give you those hours.
Most candidates pair one course with one or two practice banks. Andrew Ramdayal’s PMP course on Udemy gives the 35 hours at low cost and pairs naturally with the TIA mocks above. If you prefer a live class, KnowledgeHut is a PMI Authorized Training Partner; from 1 December 2026, PMI only accepts live classes from authorized partners and a few other provider types. Our best PMP courses guide compares eight options in detail, and the CAPM vs PMP comparison helps if you are not sure you meet the experience requirement.
Frequently asked questions
Are there free PMP practice exams?
Yes. The most useful free sets in October 2026 are Oliver Lehmann’s 180 questions for the 2026 exam, PMAspirant’s free 180-question simulator, the 120 free questions from PM PrepCast and PMLearning’s 25-plus-25 question set. Check that any free set says it covers the July 2026 exam, because many free question pages were written for the 2021 version.
Is PMI’s PMP practice exam worth it?
For most candidates, yes, as a single readiness check. It costs $99, mirrors the real exam with 180 questions in three timed sections, allows unlimited retakes and reports your results by domain with explanations. It is one exam, though, so you still need a larger question bank for practice.
Should I buy PMI’s practice exam or Study Hall?
Buy the $99 practice exam if you want one realistic full-length test near the end of your study. Buy Study Hall ($59 Essentials or $79 Plus for three months) if you are earlier in your preparation and want lessons, mini exams and two or three full-length exams. Study Hall renews every quarter until you cancel, and you cannot upgrade from Essentials to Plus later.
How many PMP practice exams should I take?
Plan on three to four full-length, timed exams of 180 questions, spread over your last few weeks, plus shorter domain quizzes before that. Most paid banks include four full exams for this reason. Reviewing each exam carefully matters more than taking extra ones.
What score on PMP practice exams means I am ready?
PMI does not publish a pass mark. Training providers usually suggest scoring around 70% or higher, consistently, on full-length exams before booking. Treat that as a guide: a score of 68% on a hard bank can mean more than 80% on an easy one, so look for steady results across all three domains.
How many questions are on the PMP exam?
180 questions in 240 minutes, with two optional 10-minute breaks. The questions are weighted 33% People, 41% Process and 26% Business Environment under the exam content outline that took effect in July 2026.
Is there a PMP practice exam PDF?
PMI’s own PDF of sample questions is a single page with three questions, created in 2008, so it does not reflect the current exam. Oliver Lehmann offers PDF versions of his free 2026 question set, which is a better choice if you want to practice offline.
Will I see practice exam questions on the real PMP exam?
No. Practice banks are written by trainers to imitate PMI’s style. Sites that sell so-called actual exam questions are offering leaked or invented material, which can breach PMI’s exam rules and is often written for an older exam.
