QUICK VERDICT
Bottom line: Coursera Plus is worth $399 a year if you will finish one longer program, or two shorter ones, within the year. Skip it if you only want a single short course, or if you rarely finish what you start.
- Price: $59 a month (7-day free trial) or $399 a year (14-day money-back guarantee), checked 5 October 2026
- Break-even: about 5 to 8 months of a single $49 to $79 program subscription
- Included: Most courses, Specializations and Professional Certificates; not degrees or certain for-credit programs
- Our rating: 4.5 out of 5 for career-focused learners
Coursera Plus is Coursera’s all-you-can-learn subscription. One payment opens most of the catalog, including the Google, IBM and Meta Professional Certificates that are the main reason people use Coursera for their careers. Whether it is worth it comes down to one question: how many programs will you actually finish in a year? This guide answers that with the current prices, the break-even math, and the fine print that catches people out.
Looking for the full price list rather than a verdict? Our Coursera pricing guide covers every way to pay, including single courses, Specializations and degrees.
Coursera Plus pricing: the current numbers
Coursera sells Plus two ways, and it still sells most programs individually. These are the prices shown on Coursera’s Plus page on 5 October 2026 (US pricing):
| Option | Price | Trial or refund | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coursera Plus Monthly | $59/month ($708 a year if kept) | 7-day free trial; no refund after it | Testing, or a single program you will finish fast |
| Coursera Plus Annual | $399/year (about $33/month) | 14-day money-back guarantee | A year of steady learning |
| Single program subscription | $49 to $79/month | Subscription terms | One Specialization or Professional Certificate |
| Single course, bought once | Price shown on the course page | 7-day refund window | One course you want to keep |
| Free preview | $0 | n/a | Checking a course before you pay |
| Degrees | Priced per program | University terms | Accredited bachelor’s or master’s degrees (not in Plus) |
Annual billing saves $309 compared with paying monthly for a full year. The crossover comes fast: seven months of the monthly plan ($413) already costs more than a year of the annual plan, so if you expect to stay subscribed for more than about half a year, annual is the better deal.
Two pricing details are easy to miss. Coursera says monthly prices can vary with promotions, and it runs occasional sales on the annual plan; in June 2026 the first year was $199. And learners in India can currently buy only the monthly plan. If you can wait for a sale, the annual plan’s value improves sharply.

What you actually get with Coursera Plus
Coursera’s own help center describes Plus as unlimited access to 10,000+ courses, Guided Projects, Specializations and Professional Certificates (Coursera help: Coursera Plus). That is most, but not all, of the catalog. Coursera’s FY2025 annual report counts 13,500+ courses, 1,900+ Specializations and 185+ certificates (95+ of them entry-level) from 375 university and company partners, as of 31 December 2025 (Coursera Form 10-K). The gap between those two numbers is the content Plus does not cover.
Included
- Courses and Specializations from universities such as Stanford, Yale, Duke and Johns Hopkins, and companies such as Google, IBM, Meta and Microsoft.
- Most Professional Certificates, including the entry-level Google, IBM and Meta programs. See our guide to whether Coursera certificates are worth it.
- Guided Projects: short, hands-on projects completed in a browser workspace.
- All graded work and certificates for included content. Earn as many as you can finish while subscribed.
- Mobile and desktop access, including offline lecture downloads in the app.
Not included
- Degree programs, which are priced per program by the university.
- Certain for-credit Professional Certificates. Coursera says some are excluded, so check for the Coursera Plus badge on the program page.
- One-to-one mentoring. Plus courses use peer review and discussion forums, not personal tutors.
- Anything without the Plus badge. The badge, not the price, is the reliable test.
The break-even math: when Coursera Plus pays for itself
The fairest comparison is against the way you would otherwise pay: a single program subscription, which runs $49 to $79 a month depending on the program. Divide $399 by that monthly price and you get the number of months at which the annual plan breaks even.
| Single program price | Months to equal $399 | Coursera Plus Annual wins if… |
|---|---|---|
| $49/month | about 8.1 months | that one program would take you more than 8 months |
| $59/month | about 6.8 months | it would take you more than 7 months |
| $79/month | about 5.1 months | it would take you more than 5 months |
| Two programs back to back | about 3 to 4 months each | you finish both within the year |
Real programs make this concrete. Coursera lists the Google Project Management Certificate at about six months at 10 hours a week, which is enough on its own to make the annual plan the cheaper way to pay. The Machine Learning Specialization lists two months at 10 hours a week, so for that course alone a two-month single subscription is cheaper, unless you plan to keep going.
The pattern is simple. One short program: pay for it on its own. One long program, or two of any length: Plus Annual. Most people who end up regretting Plus overestimated how much they would finish, so plan honestly around the hours you have each week.
4 reasons Coursera Plus is worth it
1. The Google, IBM and Meta certificates are real credentials
Coursera’s entry-level Professional Certificates are built by the companies whose names are on them: Google (Data Analytics, IT Support, UX Design, Project Management, Cybersecurity), IBM (Data Science, Data Engineering) and Meta (front-end and back-end development, among others). They will not replace a degree, but they are recognized names on a résumé and a structured way into a new field. Our reviews of the Google Data Analytics Certificate and the IBM Data Science Professional Certificate go deeper on how each one lands with employers.
2. You can change direction without paying again
Plans change. You might start a data course and find that UX design suits you better. On single subscriptions, every switch is another bill. On Plus, it costs nothing extra, which makes it a sensible way to explore a career change before committing to one path.
3. Breadth across subjects
Few subscriptions cover data, business, computer science, design and the humanities at university level in one place. If you want a Yale finance course alongside a Google analytics certificate, Plus is the only way to get both on one bill.
4. Low-risk ways to try before you commit
Most courses offer a free preview of the first module, including its graded work, and a smaller set offer the full course without a certificate. Add the monthly plan’s 7-day free trial and the annual plan’s 14-day money-back guarantee, and you can check fit properly before you spend much.
4 reasons Coursera Plus is not worth it
1. You collect courses but rarely finish them
Plus rewards finishing. Certificates need completed graded work, and the value only adds up if you get through programs. If you already have unused subscriptions, be honest with yourself before adding another.
2. You only need one short course
For one course you will finish in a few weeks, Plus is overkill. Preview it free, then buy it on its own or take a one- or two-month single subscription. If cost is the barrier, Coursera financial aid is available on most courses.
3. You want a degree
Plus does not include degree programs. Those are priced per program by the university: for example, $4,400 to $6,600 for BITS Pilani’s online BSc in Computer Science and $27,288 for the Illinois iMBA. If a degree is the goal, budget for the program itself.
4. You need hands-on practice more than credentials
Coursera is strongest for structured, credentialed learning. If you mainly want to type code every day, an interactive platform such as Codecademy may suit you better. If you want inspiration from well-known practitioners, see our MasterClass review.

Who should subscribe
The career switcher
You are moving into a new field and need a credential a hiring manager will recognize. Plan on six to twelve months of Plus to finish one or two Professional Certificates, plus a few supporting courses. For most switchers this is the clearest case for the annual plan.
The continuing professional
You are already working and want to keep your skills current: new tools, adjacent skills, a refresher in statistics or management. The breadth of the catalog makes Plus a good single subscription for ongoing development, especially if your employer will reimburse it.
The multi-subject learner
You want to learn across data, business and design without committing to one. Plus is the most affordable way to do that at university level.
Who should not subscribe
The single-course buyer
You want one specific course, perhaps Andrew Ng’s Machine Learning Specialization, and you will not come back. Pay for that program on its own; it will cost less than a year of Plus.
The browser who does not finish
If you have started courses on other platforms and abandoned them, Plus will probably follow the same pattern. Use free previews until you find something you finish, then decide.
The future degree student
If you are weighing an MBA or another accredited program, Plus does not replace it. It can, however, be a cheap way to take a university’s courses before you apply. Our Coursera vs edX comparison covers the university-backed options on both platforms.
Is Coursera Plus worth it for your goal?
The answer changes with what you want to learn, because program lengths differ so much. A quick guide by goal:
- Data analytics: the Google Data Analytics Certificate is a multi-month program, so Plus Annual usually wins, especially if you add SQL or Tableau courses afterwards. Start with our Google Data Analytics review.
- Project management: the Google Project Management Certificate runs about six months at 10 hours a week, right at the break-even point on its own. Plus Annual is the better buy if you might add anything else.
- Data science: IBM’s Data Science Professional Certificate is a 12-course series, long enough that Plus Annual is the clear choice.
- Machine learning: the Machine Learning Specialization is about two months at 10 hours a week, so pay for it on its own unless you plan to follow it with more.
- UX design: the Google UX Design Certificate is another multi-month program where Plus Annual usually comes out ahead.
- Just exploring: stay on free previews until one subject holds your attention, then decide.
Coursera Plus vs free preview vs paying per program
| Option | Cost | Full course access | Certificate | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free preview | $0 | First module only (full course on select courses) | No | Trying a course before paying |
| Single course, bought once | Shown on the course page | Yes | Yes | One course you will finish |
| Single program subscription | $49 to $79/month | Yes, for that program | Yes | One program you will finish fast |
| Coursera Plus Monthly | $59/month | Yes, all Plus content | Yes, unlimited | A few months of focused study |
| Coursera Plus Annual | $399/year | Yes, all Plus content | Yes, unlimited | A year of career development |
Free trial, refunds and canceling: read this before you subscribe
- Monthly plan: 7-day free trial. You get full access during the trial. Under Coursera’s Terms of Use, monthly subscriptions are not refunded once the trial ends, so cancel before day 7 if you are only testing.
- Annual plan: 14-day money-back guarantee. There is no free trial, but you can request a refund within 14 days of purchase.
- One-time purchases: 7-day refund window.
- Cancel anytime. Canceling stops the next charge; it does not refund the current billing period outside the windows above.
- Cancel your old subscriptions yourself. Coursera’s help center warns that existing single-program subscriptions do not cancel automatically when you start Plus. If you skip this, you pay twice. Canceling them does not affect your course progress.
MasterClass, by contrast, sells only annual plans, and its prices are covered in our MasterClass vs Coursera comparison.
How to get the most out of a Coursera Plus subscription
- Pick your first program before you pay. Use the free preview to choose it, then start the subscription the day you are ready to work.
- Check the Plus badge on every program you plan to take. It is the only reliable sign that a program is included.
- Put the hours in your calendar. Coursera’s estimates assume a steady weekly pace, usually around 10 hours. Missing weeks is how a six-month certificate turns into a year.
- Finish one program before starting the next. Completed certificates are what you can show an employer; half-finished ones are not.
- Time an annual purchase for a sale if you can wait. Coursera discounts the first year a few times a year; our Coursera Black Friday guide tracks the November sale.
- Ask your employer. Many companies reimburse learning subscriptions or already provide Coursera through Coursera for Business.
Coursera Plus vs other learning subscriptions
| Platform | Price (checked) | Best for | Credentials |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coursera Plus | $59/month or $399/year (5 Oct 2026) | Career skills and recognized certificates | University and company certificates |
| Udemy Personal Plan | About $13/month (see our Personal Plan review) | Practical, tool-specific skills | Certificates of completion |
| Codecademy | Plus $14.99/month, Pro $19.99/month, billed annually (5 Oct 2026) | Hands-on coding practice | Certificates of completion |
| DataCamp | $14/month billed yearly on a current promotion (5 Oct 2026); see is DataCamp worth it | Data skills in short exercises | Platform certifications |
| MasterClass | $10 to $20/month, billed annually (our August 2026 check) | Inspiration and craft | No formal credential |
If none of these fit, our Coursera alternatives guide and Skillshare alternatives guide cover more options by goal.
The strongest career-development stack
For ambitious learners, the most useful pairing is Coursera Plus for the credential layer plus one hands-on tool for daily practice. A Plus Annual subscription with a Codecademy plan (for coding) or DataCamp (for data work) gives you both a certificate employers recognize and the repetition that makes the skill stick. For data careers, our best data analytics courses guide shows which Coursera programs to start with, and our best AI certifications ranking covers the AI programs Plus includes.
Final verdict
Coursera Plus earns 4.5 out of 5 from us for career-focused learners. The certificates are real, the catalog is broad, the trial and guarantee lower the risk, and the math clearly favors anyone who finishes a long program or two short ones in a year.
It is not for everyone. If you want one short course, pay for it on its own. If you rarely finish what you start, use the free previews first. And whatever you decide, cancel any old Coursera subscriptions when you upgrade so you are not billed twice.

Frequently asked questions
Is Coursera Plus worth $399 a year?
Yes, if you will finish at least one longer program, or two shorter ones, within the year. Single Specializations and Professional Certificates are sold at $49 to $79 a month, so a program that takes six to eight months on its own subscription costs about the same as a full year of Plus. Anything you finish after that is free. If you only want one short course, buying it on its own is cheaper.
How much does Coursera Plus cost in 2026?
$59 a month or $399 a year, as listed on Coursera’s Plus page on 5 October 2026. The annual plan works out to about $33 a month and saves $309 against twelve monthly payments. Coursera says monthly prices can vary with promotions, and it runs occasional first-year sales on the annual plan; in June 2026 the first year was $199.
What is included in Coursera Plus?
Coursera’s help center says Plus includes 10,000+ courses, Guided Projects, Specializations and Professional Certificates. Degree courses and certain for-credit Professional Certificates may be excluded, so check for the Coursera Plus badge on a program page before you subscribe for it.
Does Coursera Plus include Professional Certificates?
Most of them. The Google, IBM and Meta entry-level Professional Certificates carry the Plus badge, but Coursera notes that certain for-credit Professional Certificates are not included. The badge on the program page is the reliable test.
Does Coursera Plus have a free trial?
The monthly plan starts with a 7-day free trial. The annual plan has no trial; it comes with a 14-day money-back guarantee instead. Most individual courses also let you preview the first module before you pay anything.
Can I get a refund on Coursera Plus?
Under Coursera’s Terms of Use, the annual plan can be refunded within 14 days of purchase. Monthly subscriptions are not refunded once the free trial ends, so cancel before day 7 if you are only testing. One-time course purchases have a 7-day refund window.
Can I cancel Coursera Plus anytime?
Yes. Both plans can be canceled at any time. Canceling stops the next charge; it does not refund the current period unless you are inside the annual plan’s 14-day window.
Does Coursera Plus include degrees?
No. Degree programs are priced per program by the university, for example $4,400 to $6,600 for BITS Pilani’s online BSc in Computer Science and $27,288 for the Illinois iMBA. Plus can still help as a cheap way to try a university’s courses first.
Is Coursera Plus better than Udemy’s Personal Plan?
They solve different problems. Udemy’s Personal Plan costs about $13 a month and is better for quick, practical skill courses. Coursera Plus costs more but includes university and company certificates that carry more weight with employers. If the credential matters, Coursera Plus is the better buy.
Is Coursera Plus worth it for casual learners?
Usually not. Plus pays off for people who finish programs. If you mostly browse, the free first-module preview and financial aid on individual courses will give you more for less.
