Its flagship, the Certified Blockchain Expert, costs $349, and most other certifications run $199 to $399. That is real money for a vendor credential, so the questions people ask before buying are fair ones: is Blockchain Council legit, is it accredited, and will employers care?

What Is Blockchain Council?

Blockchain Council describes itself as “a private de-facto organization of experts and enthusiasts” promoting blockchain, AI and Web3. In practice it is a private online training company: it writes courses, sells them with an exam, and issues its own certificates. Despite the name, it is not a government body, an industry regulator or a standards organization, and holding its certificate does not license you to do anything.

The name causes confusion. Blockchain Council (blockchain-council.org) is unrelated to national industry groups with similar names, such as the Blockchain Council of the Philippines or the Texas Blockchain Council, and to the Hedera Council, the group of companies that governs the Hedera network. If you saw a news story about a “blockchain council” that includes Google or IBM, it was probably about one of those, not this training provider.

Be careful with the company’s own statistics, because they disagree with each other. On 9 October 2026 its homepage claimed 500+ certifications, more than a million learners and 145+ countries; its About page said 2,500+ members, 90+ countries and 60+ certifications; its accreditation page said 125,000+ professionals certified. Every certification page we opened, except the flagship, showed the same “4.8 (500 reviews), 10,000+ enrolled” badge, which looks like a page template rather than a measured figure. None of this makes the courses bad, but none of these numbers is independent evidence of quality either.

What Blockchain Council Offers

The catalog has grown well beyond blockchain. Alongside the blockchain certifications there are now dozens of AI programs (prompt engineering, generative AI, AI agents), crypto and compliance programs (crypto fraud investigation, crypto compliance), and newer launches such as quantum computing and real-world-asset tokenization. Most are self-paced video courses with downloadable notes and an online exam; a few run as live, instructor-led cohorts.

Core blockchain certifications

These are the programs most people searching for a Blockchain Council review are weighing. Prices and course lengths are as listed on each certification page on 9 October 2026; every one of these pages said it was last updated in March 2026.

• Certified Blockchain Expert: the entry point and the best-known credential. It covers how blockchains work, consensus, tokenization, privacy, security and business use cases, with no coding required. The live version adds six hours of instructor-led sessions (the next cohort listed was 7 and 8 November 2026).
• Certified Blockchain Developer: the broadest technical course: Ethereum and Solidity, Hyperledger, and two R3 Corda projects. Fifteen hours is a tour of several platforms rather than deep training in one.
• Certified Smart Contract Auditor, Solidity Developer and Ethereum Developer: narrower technical courses of 7 to 10 hours. They are introductions; none is long enough to make you job-ready as an auditor or developer.
• Certified Hyperledger Expert: enterprise, permissioned blockchain at the lowest price in the range. If your employer runs Hyperledger Fabric, the Linux Foundation’s own Fabric exam is the more recognized credential.

AI, crypto and other certifications

The AI catalog is now as large as the blockchain one. These courses are less established than the blockchain programs and compete with far cheaper options, such as Google’s and IBM’s AI courses on Coursera. How Much Does Blockchain Council Cost?

On 9 October 2026, self-paced certifications cost $199 to $399 each, and the live, instructor-led Certified Blockchain Expert cost $499. Course pages offer an installment (EMI) option at checkout. There is no subscription to keep paying and no renewal fee: you buy a certification once and keep the course materials and the credential for life.

Coupon codes

Blockchain Council runs discount codes most of the time, advertised in a banner at the top of its homepage. On 9 October 2026 the banner read “Festive Deal is LIVE, Save 25%” with code FESTIVE, which would take the $349 Certified Blockchain Expert to about $262 if it applies at checkout. Codes change often, so check the banner on the day you buy rather than relying on a coupon site.

Membership

The Individual Membership Plan was $299 a year, billed annually with a 7-day money-back guarantee. It gives 30% off self-paced programs and 50% off instructor-led training, plus a blockchain course bundle the site values at $399, free webinars, and a profile in the member network. The arithmetic is simple: on a $349 certification the membership saves about $105, so it only pays off if you plan to buy at least two or three certifications within the year. For a single certification, a banner code is the better deal.

Is Blockchain Council Legitimate?

This is the most common question, and the honest answer is: yes, it is a real company that delivers what it sells, but its credentials carry less weight than the marketing suggests.

What’s legitimate

• It has operated since at least 2016 and delivers the courses, exams and certificates it sells.
• Certificates can be checked by an employer on its credential verification portal.
• Course content covers real blockchain topics, and the certification pages were updated in March 2026.
• Reviews are mostly positive: Trustpilot showed 4.3 from 262 reviews on 9 October 2026, with praise for clear, concise content.
• You keep lifetime access to course materials, and the credential does not expire.

What to be aware of

• It is a vendor credential. Blockchain Council certifies its own courses. No university, regulator or independent exam board stands behind the certificate.
• “CPD accredited” is narrower than it sounds. CPD accreditation means a course has been reviewed as suitable for continuing professional development hours. The accreditation page does not name the CPD body, and the courses it showcases are AI and fintech programs. It is not academic accreditation.
• The exam is not a rigorous professional exam. It is an online multiple-choice test you can take any time after the course. The site does not describe live proctoring.
• Marketing numbers conflict. Learner, country and certification counts differ from page to page (see above).
• Refunds are tight. Seven days, and only if you have barely started (details below). One Trustpilot reviewer whose training dates were moved waited months for a refund before it was resolved.

Do employers recognize Blockchain Council certifications?

Some do, mostly as evidence of interest rather than of skill. A Blockchain Council certificate can help a non-technical professional show an employer, or an automated resume screen, that they understand blockchain. It carries little weight with Web3 engineering teams, which hire smart-contract developers on the strength of public code, audit contest results and security knowledge. How the Exam and Certificate Work

• Format: an online, multiple-choice exam on the course material, taken after you finish the lessons.
• Timing: you can sit it whenever you like; Blockchain Council recommends doing so within 10 days of finishing the course.
• Retakes: allowed if you fail. The site tells you to check its guidelines for the number of attempts and any fee, but does not state them on the course pages.
• Certificate: issued online after you pass, with lifetime validity, and verifiable on the members portal.
• Time to complete: most self-paced courses are 6 to 15 hours of material; Blockchain Council says the Certified Blockchain Expert takes three to four weeks depending on how you study.

Refund Policy

Blockchain Council’s refund policy (last updated 1 March 2026) judges requests case by case. You may be eligible only if all of these apply:

• You ask within 7 calendar days of purchase.
• You have not accessed or downloaded a substantial part of the course, generally no more than 10%.
• No exam has been attempted and no certificate or badge has been issued.
• You give a valid reason, such as a duplicate purchase or a confirmed technical problem.

In practice that means you need to decide quickly. Watch the free preview material before you buy, because once you have worked through more than a module or two, a refund is unlikely.
