Pimsleur costs $14.95 to $20.95 a month as a subscription, $164.95 a year for All Access, or a one-time $150 to $798 for lifetime access, before sales. Which of those is cheapest depends almost entirely on how long you will keep listening, and the answer is often not the plan Pimsleur puts first. Every price below was read on Pimsleur’s own site on 5 October 2026.

QUICK VERDICT

Bottom line: For one language that you will finish in a few months, pay monthly for Premium. If you might learn a second language, All Access costs $1 a month more. Only buy lifetime during a sale, and only if you will use it for more than two years. The deepest one so far was the Pimsleur Black Friday sale: All Access Lifetime for $299 in 2025.

  • Cheapest way to start: the 7-day free trial, then Audio-Only at $14.95 a month
  • Best value for most people: Premium at $19.95 a month, canceled when you finish
  • Two or more languages: All Access, $164.95 a year (about $13.75 a month)
  • Students and military: 30% off All Access Annual, 54% off All Access Lifetime
  • Watch out for: no refunds on subscriptions, and the trial renews automatically

Pimsleur prices at a glance

Pimsleur sells the same audio lessons three ways: a single-language subscription, an all-languages subscription, or a lifetime purchase. These are the US prices on Pimsleur.com on 5 October 2026.

Plan Price What it covers
Audio-Only $14.95 a month Core 30-minute audio lessons for one language
Premium $19.95 a month One language, with the Premium practice tools such as Voice Coach
All Access, monthly $20.95 a month All 51 languages, switch freely, Premium tools included
All Access, annual $164.95 a year (about $13.75 a month) Same as above, billed yearly
Lifetime, one level $150 list ($112.50 on sale) 30 lessons of one language, yours to keep
Lifetime, complete course $575 list ($431.25 on sale) Every level of one language, up to 150 lessons
All Access Lifetime $798 list ($478.80 on sale) Every level of every language, for good

The sale prices are from Pimsleur’s “Fall Savings Sale” on 5 October. A week earlier, on 27 September, an “End of Summer Sale” had the same lifetime courses at $105, $402.50 and $478.80. Treat the list price as the ceiling and assume another sale is never far away.

How much does Pimsleur cost per month?

If you subscribe, you pay between $14.95 and $20.95 a month, depending on two choices: whether you want the practice tools, and whether you want one language or all of them.

  • Audio-Only, $14.95 a month. The core Pimsleur method: 30-minute spoken lessons for one language. If you only ever listen in the car or on a walk, this is all you need.
  • Premium, $19.95 a month. The same lessons plus Pimsleur’s practice features, such as Voice Coach pronunciation feedback. Worth the extra $5 if you will sit with the app at home.
  • All Access, $20.95 a month. Every Premium feature for all 51 languages. It costs $1 a month more than Premium, which makes single-language Premium a poor buy if there is any chance you will try a second language.

Every subscription renews automatically until you cancel. If you subscribed on Pimsleur.com, you must cancel by 11:59pm Eastern Time on the last day of your billing period to avoid the next charge; app-store subscriptions are canceled through Apple or Google. Subscriptions started after 20 June 2024 can also be paused for one or two months instead of canceled.

Pimsleur annual subscription cost

Pimsleur shows one annual plan: All Access for $164.95 a year. That is about $13.75 a month, and Pimsleur says it is 34% cheaper than paying for All Access monthly; the arithmetic agrees ($251.40 a year monthly against $164.95).

The annual plan is cheaper per month than even Audio-Only ($179.40 over a year), so if you know you will use Pimsleur for most of a year, it is the best subscription price on the site, and it includes every language. The catch is commitment: subscription charges are not refunded, so if you stop after three months you have still paid for twelve.

Pimsleur lifetime cost

A lifetime purchase is a one-time payment for lessons that never expire. Pimsleur sells three sizes:

  • One level, $150 list. 30 lessons of about 30 minutes, roughly 15 hours of audio. Some languages, such as Icelandic, only have this one level.
  • Complete course, $575 list. Every level of one language, up to five levels and 150 lessons.
  • All Access Lifetime, $798 list. Every level of every language, shareable with up to three household members.

Pimsleur discounts these often. On 5 October 2026 the sale was 25% off a level or a complete course and 40% off All Access Lifetime ($112.50, $431.25 and $478.80). Lifetime purchases made on Pimsleur.com come with a 30-day money-back guarantee, which subscriptions do not.

When lifetime is worth it

Lifetime only beats a subscription if you use Pimsleur for a long time. The break-even points, at list and at the 5 October sale prices:

Lifetime option List price equals Sale price equals
Complete course vs Premium monthly $575 = 29 months of Premium $431.25 = 22 months of Premium
All Access Lifetime vs All Access annual $798 = 4.8 years $478.80 = 2.9 years
One level vs one month of Premium $150 = 7.5 months $112.50 = 5.6 months

A five-level course is 150 lessons. At one lesson a day that is about five months, which costs $99.75 on Premium. Most learners who finish one language therefore pay far less by subscribing and canceling than by buying the complete course, even on sale. Lifetime makes sense for slow learners, for people who replay lessons for years, or for a household that will work through several languages.

Is Pimsleur free?

Pimsleur is not free, but it has two ways to try it at no cost:

  • The 7-day free trial. Every subscription starts with one for new customers. It opens all lessons for one language on Audio-Only or Premium, or all languages on All Access. You are not charged during the trial, but you must cancel before it ends; deleting the app does not cancel it.
  • A free first lesson. Pimsleur’s site offers a free lesson, which is enough to hear whether the call-and-response method suits you before you hand over card details.

Seven days at one lesson a day covers about a quarter of Level 1. That is a fair test of the method, though not of whether you will stick with it for months.

Does Pimsleur have a family plan?

There is no separate family plan because sharing is built in. Pimsleur’s FAQ says a registered user can share a Premium or All Access course with up to three family members, each with their own progress tracking, and lifetime purchases include the same household sharing. One All Access subscription at $164.95 a year can therefore cover four people learning different languages, which is about $41 per person per year.

Refunds, cancellation and the 30-day guarantee

This is the part of Pimsleur’s pricing most likely to cost you money, so it is worth reading slowly.

  • Subscriptions are not refunded. Pimsleur’s refund policy says it does not refund subscription charges or any unused part of a term. Forget to cancel a trial or a renewal and the charge stands.
  • Lifetime purchases have a 30-day money-back guarantee, but only when bought on Pimsleur.com or through its call center.
  • The guarantee excludes subscriptions that came with a 7-day or longer free trial, renewals, gift subscriptions, and anything bought through Apple or Google inside the app.

In practice: if you want the safety net, buy lifetime on the website. If you subscribe, set a reminder for the day before your trial or billing date.

How to pay less for Pimsleur

  • Use the trial before paying anything. Seven days is enough to know whether the method works for you.
  • Pay monthly and cancel when you finish. For one language, five months of Premium ($99.75) beats every lifetime price.
  • Choose All Access annual if you will use it for most of a year. $164.95 is the lowest per-month price on the site.
  • Wait for a sale before buying lifetime. We saw 25% to 40% off on both dates we checked.
  • Check the verified-group discount. Students, military personnel, educators, healthcare workers and first responders get 54% off All Access Lifetime and 30% off All Access Annual after SheerID verification.
  • Share it. Up to three family members can use the same Premium or All Access course.
  • Join the offer emails. Pimsleur says its best offers go to its special-offer email list, and its referral page offers $20 for giving a friend a 7-day trial (conditions apply).

Pimsleur prices outside the US

Pimsleur’s site prices plans in US dollars, and every figure on this page is from the US site. Gift subscriptions require a US billing address. If you subscribe through the iPhone or Android app, the app store sets the price in your local currency and can differ from the website, so compare both before you pay. Sales tax, where it applies, is added at checkout based on your billing ZIP code.

What you actually get for the price

Every plan gives you the same core product: 30-minute audio lessons in which a narrator prompts you to say phrases aloud and then recalls them at spaced intervals. Each level is 30 lessons, roughly 15 hours of audio. Lessons download for offline use in the Pimsleur app, which has a hands-free driving mode for CarPlay and Android Auto. CDs are no longer sold.

What changes between plans is the extras (Premium adds the practice tools), the number of languages (All Access covers all 51), and whether you rent or own the lessons. Our Pimsleur review covers how far those 15-hour levels actually get you.

How Pimsleur prices compare

Pimsleur is one of the more expensive language apps, because it charges for spoken-practice audio rather than for drills. A comparison with the alternatives most people weigh it against:

App Typical price Best for
Pimsleur $19.95/mo one language; $164.95/yr all languages Speaking and listening, hands-free
Babbel $107.40/yr ($8.95/mo); $299.99 lifetime Grammar, reading and structured lessons
Duolingo Free tier; paid Super plan Daily vocabulary habit
A live tutor (Preply, italki) Priced per lesson by each tutor Real conversation practice

Babbel costs about a third less per year and teaches grammar and reading that Pimsleur deliberately leaves out; see Babbel cost and our head-to-head Pimsleur vs Babbel. Duolingo is free to start; our Duolingo Super cost guide covers the paid tiers. For live speaking practice, a tutor beats any app: see Preply cost and our italki review. Rosetta Stone is another immersion option, reviewed here.

Is Pimsleur worth the cost?

At $19.95 a month, Pimsleur is good value if your goal is to speak and understand everyday conversation and you have half an hour a day of commuting, walking or chores to fill. It is poor value if you want to read and write, if your language has only one level, or if you are unlikely to listen daily, because an unused subscription is the most expensive way to learn anything.

The cheapest sensible path for most people is: trial, then Premium month to month, canceled when you finish. Pick All Access annual instead if you want more than one language, and lifetime only if you catch a sale and will keep using it for years. Can you still buy Pimsleur CDs?

Not from Pimsleur. Its FAQ says CDs are no longer sold on its website; lessons are downloaded for offline use inside the Pimsleur app instead.
