What is the GA4 Nanodegree?

Google Analytics 4 replaced Universal Analytics on July 1, 2023, and many marketers, analysts, and product teams are still catching up. This Nanodegree provides comprehensive GA4-specific training, covering event-based tracking, exploration reports, and integration with BigQuery for custom analysis.

Curriculum overview (22 hours)

Module 1: GA4 Foundations

The shift from session-based UA to event-based GA4. Account structure, properties, data streams, and the new measurement protocol. Setting up tracking on web and apps.

Module 2: GA4 Reporting and Exploration

Standard reports vs Explorations, Funnel exploration, Path exploration, Segment overlap, User explorer, custom reports.

Module 3: Audiences and Conversions

Audience builder, predictive metrics (purchase probability, churn probability), conversion event setup, attribution models in GA4.

Module 4: GA4 + BigQuery

The big upgrade in GA4: free BigQuery export. Writing SQL queries against GA4 raw event data. Cross-platform user identity stitching.

Prerequisites

  • Some marketing analytics or data analysis exposure helpful but not required.
  • Basic SQL helps for BigQuery section.

Pros

  • Up-to-date GA4-specific content (many courses still teach legacy UA patterns).
  • BigQuery integration is rare in marketing courses.
  • 22 hours is approachable.

Cons

  • Doesn’t prep you directly for the Google Analytics Individual Qualification (GAIQ) exam — that requires GAIQ-specific study from Google’s free Analytics Academy.
  • $399/month for 22 hours feels steep unless completed in one month.

Who should take this

Take it if: marketer who needs GA4 fluency, analyst migrating from UA, growth pro using GA4 for product analytics. Skip if: you’re only interested in passing the GAIQ exam (use Google’s free Analytics Academy instead) or need deeper data engineering content (use AWS Data Engineer cert guide).

FAQ

Does this prep me for GAIQ?

Indirectly — you’ll learn GA4 deeply but the GAIQ exam covers some Google Marketing Platform topics this Nanodegree doesn’t. Pair with Google’s Analytics Academy.

What jobs can I get?

Marketing Analyst, Digital Analyst, Marketing Operations, Growth Analyst. Median: $70K-$110K base depending on company.

Final verdict: 4.1/5
