THE SHORT ANSWER
CareerFoundry has closed. CareerFoundry ceased operations on 28 February 2026 as part of insolvency proceedings. No new courses are being offered and existing programs are not being continued. If you were choosing between the two, the decision has been made for you: Designlab’s UX Academy is still enrolling, with monthly cohorts.
- Designlab UX Academy: $7,999 upfront, 21 weeks full-time or 36 part-time, a 1:1 mentor who is a working designer, and tuition reimbursement on its terms.
- Want another mentored option to compare? Springboard’s UI/UX Design track: $7,190 upfront, 9 months.
- On a tight budget? Start with Google’s UX Design Certificate before committing to a bootcamp.

CareerFoundry, the Berlin-based online bootcamp, went into insolvency in 2025 and closed in early 2026. Its own closure notice is explicit: “As part of insolvency proceedings, CareerFoundry has ceased operations as of February 28, 2026. No new courses are being offered, and existing programs are no longer being continued.”
- 1 October 2025: the Charlottenburg district court in Berlin opened insolvency proceedings for CareerFoundry GmbH (case 3610 IN 4586/25), with the company managing its own proceedings.
- January 2026: a court notice concerned the sale of the company’s intangible assets. CareerFoundry says its trademarks, learning content and certifications went to CF Training GmbH, which it describes as an independent company that will not continue CareerFoundry’s business.
- 28 February 2026: operations ceased.
WATCH OUT
Much of careerfoundry.com is still online and still advertises programs, mentors and a job guarantee. Those pages describe a company that no longer operates. Do not pay anyone for a CareerFoundry program, and treat any comparison that still recommends it, including earlier versions of this page, as out of date.
Designlab UX Academy in 2026
Designlab is still operating and still enrolling, and it is the closest match to what CareerFoundry offered: online, mentored, and built for career changers. Here is what the UX Academy page lists today.
| Designlab UX Academy | |
|---|---|
| Upfront | $7,999 ($399 deposit + $7,600), saving $400 |
| Monthly plan | 6 or 10 interest-free instalments of $800 to $1,333; $8,399 total including a $400 processing fee |
| Financing | Climb Credit (US only): $257 to $304 a month, $9,632 to $11,809 total |
| Foundations course | 4 to 8 weeks at about 10 to 20 hours a week (experienced visual designers can skip it) |
| UX Academy | 21 weeks full-time (40 h/week) or 36 weeks part-time (20 h/week); self-paced up to 18 months |
| Mentoring | Dedicated 1:1 mentor, a working designer, on regular video calls |
| Careers | Career coach in the final Career Services stage |
| Reimbursement | Tuition back if you finish, meet participation requirements and land no qualifying design role within 6 months |
| Start dates | Monthly cohorts (next Foundations cohort from 12 October 2026 when we checked) |
How the program runs
Most students begin with UX Academy Foundations, which teaches visual design principles, UI basics and Figma and ends with a 10-hour design challenge that serves as the entry project for the main program. UX Academy itself covers the full UX/UI process, from research and strategy through visual design, prototyping, testing and portfolio case studies, and Designlab now builds AI-assisted design workflows into the curriculum. Lessons are online and asynchronous; the structure comes from your mentor sessions and cohort deadlines.
The reimbursement terms
Designlab deliberately does not call its offer a job guarantee: its FAQ says “nobody can honestly guarantee you a job.” What it offers is tuition reimbursement if you complete the program, meet the participation requirements and do not land a qualifying design role within six months of graduation. As with any bootcamp guarantee, read the full terms before you enroll; they govern what counts as participation and as a qualifying role.

If you were comparing Designlab with CareerFoundry
Older comparisons, including the earlier version of this page, set the two against each other on mentoring, length and the guarantee. Those differences no longer matter, because only one of them can be bought. The more useful question is what else is on the shortlist now. Three options cover most situations:
| Option | Cost (as of 21 Sept 2026) | Length | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Designlab UX Academy | $7,999 upfront | 21 weeks FT / 36 weeks PT | Design craft with a working-designer mentor |
| Springboard UI/UX Design | $7,190 upfront ($8,690 list); $1,000 off with OC1000SB | 9 months | Mentor, career coach and advisor at a lower price |
| Google UX Design Certificate | A Coursera subscription | Self-paced | Testing the field cheaply, without a mentor |
Designlab and Springboard are close on price once discounts apply. The practical differences are the mentor model, the program length and the refund terms: Springboard’s UI/UX page does not offer its money-back guarantee, while Designlab offers tuition reimbursement. Our Designlab vs Springboard comparison goes through them in detail.
What about UX Design Institute and other alternatives?
Readers who compared CareerFoundry often also looked at UX Design Institute and other UX programs. We have not reviewed UX Design Institute, so we will not rank it here; check its current terms and accreditation claims directly. Whatever you consider, apply the lesson of CareerFoundry’s closure: prefer providers that are clearly enrolling, pay in stages where you can, and read the refund terms before paying.
How to vet a UX bootcamp after CareerFoundry
CareerFoundry’s students had no warning in the marketing: the site still promised mentors and a job guarantee after the company had closed. Five checks reduce that risk with any provider:
- Confirm it is enrolling now. Look for a dated next cohort or start date and talk to admissions before paying. Designlab, for example, listed its next Foundations cohort from 12 October 2026 when we checked.
- Pay in stages where you can. A deposit plus monthly instalments limits what you lose if a provider fails mid-program. Weigh that against the upfront discount, which is usually a few hundred dollars (Designlab’s is $400).
- Read the refund and guarantee terms in full. Guarantees depend on participation rules; know what counts as a qualifying role and what you must log each week.
- Check who mentors you. Ask how mentors are selected and how often you meet. Designlab says its mentors are working designers on regular video calls.
- Keep your own records. Save your enrollment agreement, receipts and portfolio files outside the provider’s platform, so a closure does not take your work with it.
None of these checks is specific to Designlab or Springboard; they are how you protect a four-figure investment in any online program.
Which should you choose?
- You want a mentored UX bootcamp focused on design craft: Designlab UX Academy.
- You want mentoring plus a career coach at the lowest bootcamp price: Springboard UI/UX Design, with code OC1000SB.
- You are not yet sure UX is for you: start with the Google UX Design Certificate, then decide.

Designlab vs CareerFoundry: FAQ
Is CareerFoundry still open?
No. CareerFoundry ceased operations on 28 February 2026 as part of insolvency proceedings, according to its own closure notice. No new courses are offered and existing programs are not being continued. Parts of its website still advertise programs, but they describe a company that no longer operates.
Designlab vs CareerFoundry: which should I choose now?
Designlab, or another bootcamp that is still enrolling. CareerFoundry is no longer an option. Designlab’s UX Academy still runs monthly cohorts, pairs every student with a 1:1 mentor who is a working designer, and offers tuition reimbursement if you meet its terms and do not land a design role within six months of graduating.
How much does Designlab UX Academy cost?
As of 21 September 2026: $7,999 paid upfront, including a $399 deposit; $8,399 over six or ten interest-free monthly instalments, which includes a $400 processing fee; or $9,632 to $11,809 through Climb Credit financing for US students.
How long does Designlab UX Academy take?
The introductory Foundations course takes 4 to 8 weeks at about 10 to 20 hours a week. The main UX Academy then takes 21 weeks full-time (40 hours a week) or 36 weeks part-time (20 hours a week), and a self-paced option allows up to 18 months.
Does Designlab have a job guarantee?
It offers tuition reimbursement rather than something it calls a job guarantee. If you complete the program, meet the participation requirements and do not land a qualifying design role within six months of graduation, you can have your tuition reimbursed.
Is a Designlab certificate accredited?
No. Designlab is not a degree-granting accredited institution; like most UX bootcamps it issues a certificate of completion. What UX hiring managers look at is the portfolio you build, and that is where Designlab’s projects and mentor feedback are aimed. Treat the certificate as a signal that you finished, not as a qualification.
What are the alternatives to CareerFoundry for UX design?
Among mentored bootcamps, Designlab UX Academy and Springboard’s UI/UX Design track ($7,190 upfront, 9 months, as of September 2026). For a far cheaper self-paced route, Google’s UX Design Certificate on Coursera covers the fundamentals without a mentor.
Bottom line
CareerFoundry is gone, so this is no longer a two-way choice. Designlab’s UX Academy remains a strong mentored option at $7,999 upfront; compare it with Springboard’s UI/UX track before you pay, and start with a cheap certificate if you are still testing the field.
