What is AZ-400 (DevOps Engineer Expert)?

AZ-400 is one of Microsoft’s two Azure Expert credentials (the other being AZ-305 Solutions Architect Expert). It validates senior-level DevOps practice on Azure: advanced Azure DevOps Pipelines, Repos, Boards, complex CI/CD, IaC at scale with Bicep and Terraform, security automation, and the strategic decisions DevOps engineers make at large Microsoft-shop organizations.

It’s NOT for beginners. Microsoft requires AZ-104 OR AZ-204 as prerequisite for the Expert credential, and most successful candidates have 2+ years of Azure DevOps production experience.

Secret management with Azure Key Vault, compliance scanning, dependency vulnerability detection, SAST/DAST integration.

Domain 5: Implement an instrumentation strategy (10-15%)

Application Insights deep dive, Log Analytics queries with KQL, alerting strategies, distributed tracing.
